Hiya

I have searched for posts about this but no luck so..
Does anyone know at what tempeture the fan should cut in?, (i have a 650s K3 pointy)
as i have not yet seen it spinning, the temp never goes much over 90c on hot days in traffic, its normaly between 80c and 88c .

Thanks for any help

My bike seems to run very hot (especially on hot days).

I have a 2002 KV650S.

I dont think ive ever heard a fan turn on or off, how can I tell? Could mine be broken?

Hi I ride a 2003 K3 S and yesterday the fan cut in for the first time at 100c hot day and lots of traffic.
Just to add that I have noticed that with my bike when you first start to ride the temp gets up to 93c and the drops down to 80/88 the therosat must open around 93 c

Thermostat opens at 88C according to the manual

if you always in motion and not stopped in traffic, there is no reason for your fan to ever come on

I can count on 1 hand, the number of times I have heard my fan in the 129,000 miles on my SV

Mine comes on at approx. 102'C,only came on once, that was when I was making sure it DID work, when stationary.

aghhh so many different replys, :o) .. Oh well it seems like somewhere in the top 90s to 100's that it cuts in, i'll have to give it a try in hot weather :)

thanks all for replys

Got concerned when I noticed my fan not kicking in - so checked wiring under the tank and found that the plug and socket connecting fan to thermostat had come apart.
Not difficult to see why, as Suzuki dont give more than one mm more cable than they need to... 8)

mine cut in at 103 today stuck in traffic. The highest temp i saw was 105!!!

Was having visions of boiling liquid exploding out of the radiator!

My bikes is getting up to 102 degrees when in traffic this week. Anyone any idea what temperature I should switch it off and walk away, presumably anything over 100 degrees means serious pressure is starting to build in the coolant system????

Although, yes, there will be alot of pressure in the cooling system at 100'C,I wouldn't have thought this temp. is a problem, for 2 reasons.

1. Coolant raises the boiling point of water, due to the chemicals/ingrediants in said coolant.

2. By pressurising the cooling system, this ALSO increases the point at which the coolant/water mix boils, hence the reason for a pressurised cooling system.

So,thats why it says,CAUTION:DO NOT REMOVE WHEN HOT!

This is because the coolant may be over 100'C,and when the pressure is released the coolant boils and bubbles imediately, removing any skin you have on your hands/face etc.

Anyway, you must have a Fan on your bike? Does it not work?

It should be good for at least 120

at 140 the high temp display light will come on & things really should be turned off at this stage

Resurrecting an old thread here....

Got the valve clearances done on my SK3 today. Riding home i noticed the temp range was much higher than normal, about 95-108 (!) and when i got home the fan wasnt goin at all at 103. Its come on before as normal at 100 so i checked this out...

Theres 2 wires comin from the back of the fan. One is connected into the side of the rad as normal (above the hose). The other has a box at the end with 2 prongs in it...where does this go to?? It was loose....

Also, anyone got any explanations as to why the temp range has gone up? Something to do with the coolant anyway.....

Any info is much appreciated, thanks folks

ask the mechanic who done the valves if he/she disconnected any wiring near the radiator... sounds like he/she forgot to reconnect the thermostat switch.

also the connector you are on about might be your horn wires... check your horn is working.

to be honest i would take the bike back and ask them to fix it (for free) because it was not like that before you took it in.
