I might try that when on my bike........."Yes occifer,my hand got stuck!"
Yeah, you would think that a major manufacturer like BMW would install some sort of override device in case of such an event, maybe they could call it an ignition key.

lol, i'm dumb.....i didn't think of that
Ask yourself this. How many times have you heard of a vehicle with an intermittent fault that's not being spotted or rectified by the main dealer network?
As for the ignition key, well a number of years ago my mother had a 406 which had a mind of it's own. It would start on it's own (without the keys in the ignition) for no reason at all! The main dealer took a year to acknowledge the fault and even then couldn't identify or correct it.

But if he did it deliberately why on earth would he be phoning the emergency services for help? :?
MOST cars these days are fitted with a switch on the brake pedal that not only activates the Brake lights, but also tells the Engine management system that the driver is braking.
The ECU then basically aknowledges this.
IF the throttle is open at this point the ECU,after a pre-determined time period,WILL cut either the Fuel or the Ignition system to the engine.
This system has been installed because alot of cars now use 'Fly-by-Wire' technology, and if it goes wrong there is no mechanical link between the pedal and throttle valve/injection system.
SO
If the guy had hit the brakes, this,I would think, would have solved his problem.
Or he could have switched the Ignition off.

I'm with you guys on this one. I really cant see any angle where he would benefit from this.
Risk killing yourself and others for the sake of a claim, or even 3 points? I dunno, i genuinely think he had a problem and the BMW thechs didnt find it (or if they did, didnt want the bad publicity that goes with it) and are ahappy to let the poor bloke get done for it.
