I have a second hand K1 GSX-R1000 shock fitted to my pointy SV.

I have no idea how many miles it had on it when I put it on and after putting on a fair few myself I decided it's probably past it's best and therefore sent it off to get rebuilt.

After refitting the shock the damping still seemed off, and this became rather apparent doing a track day. Having the compression adjuster on the hardest setting the damping, compression especially, was still woefully inadiquite.

I returned the shock to the company insisting they'd not done the rebuild, they checked their records and they couldn't find the first job, so they did it a second time.

Now, when I first installed it my knowledge of suspension extended only as far as to say it was better than the standard SV shock. So, I have no idea if it was working well at that point and has just gone off over the miles, or it was never working properly

What I need to know is, have the company I sent the shock to ripped me off, or is there another explination?

Well, the damping's all set up for a totally different bike... So it could simply be that I suppose.

Yeah that's what I'm wondering.

I'm hoping someone will be able to tell me for certain so I can either accept it or get angry!

Now I'm no suspension expert(just someone really interested in suspension) it could be a number of reasons lol.

It could be the the oil used. From what you are saying uit would appear basically that you ran out of adjustment (problem which you didn't have previously).

Maybe not careful enough in bleeding during rebuild.

Nitrogen pressure? ie maybe too low.

When you sent it for the rebuild did you ask for it to be tailored specifically for the SV?

If you can get them to give you (don't know if they will be willing to do that) the exact oil(brand and Weight) they used/amount and the nitrogen pressure etc PM them and I'll have a chart with someone. Might provide some answers.

Cheers
Ben

That is a good point but did it feel better before you sent it off for the service. It's still the same shock so if it was better before the service then maybe the point about being for a different bike becomes maybe eh... moot? :?

It felt soggy before the service, and no different afterwards.

I've phoned up and they're gonna get back to me on the oil weight. Nitrogen pressure shouldn't be an issue as they tend to over charge, apparently.

What about your body weight vs. the spring rate - how well are they matched?

Spring rate should be about right for him. (He's an ickle: furry thingy )
