Bearing in mind a few factors; Im still a learner (determined to pass my big test before summers out), itl mostly be commuting to and from work, but when i do go out and play itl be a local v tight and twisty road..
Was thinking of bt020's???

I stuck diablo stradas on, did wonders for my confidence.

Likewise Roadtecs. 020s are good but they seem to frazzle faster than 020s when worked hard, and they don't last as well by all accounts.

I have BT020 on back, and BT010 on front
BT020 - Touring tyre, harder in the centre
BT010 - Sport tyre, more sticky..

Been happy with them, never felt unsafe, when playing!!

(Be prepared for lots of comments on other tyres, from the others, to confuse you........ )

BT020s are fine, but more expensive than you need to pay and not quite as good as the latest crop of tyres available. You best bet would probably be the Metzeler Z6 which should be a fair bit cheaper and is now considered a better option than the ageing 020.

If you browse through here, you'll see it's all been said already ;)

I run Avon 45/46's on my curvy, which are sport touring tyres. They give good mileage and grip well in all weathers. When I fitted these the front felt a lot more "planted" than with the standard Metzelers.

I've had 2 sets of 020's on my bike and i've recently put on Z6's for the first time. I have to say they are more confidence inspiring and seem to feel alot stickier in the corners than the 020's. Can't comment on milage yet but i've read on here that people are getting very good milage from them.

I fitted conti road attacks £165 ride in ride out service (Bedford wheels) really like them and they are lasting quite well too, plus you cant beat the tread pattern in my opinion.

AS a wee contrasting opinion, I thought the Azaro rear was the worst tyre I've ever had on my bike... Hated it in the wet. It was perfectly good in the dry, just not as good as the competition. Fantastically good in snow, funnily enough. All just IMO though.

just a quicky, but what prices are people getting for ride in ride out for the mezt z6's?

I think £160 is about right for a competitive price.

Normally Diablo Stradas but currently running Strada rear/Michelin Pilot Road front. Front needs changing soon and will be going for a Diablo front /Strada rear.

New tyres really make a difference from the standard ones? or is it you need to replace them anyway so may aswell got for the best choice?

Agreed, also Continental Road Atttacks, great.

Lots of truth in this - modern tyres are ALL good, there truly aren't any duffers out there any more.

The standard tyres found on the SV, be it the Metzelers on Curvies, or the D220's on Pointies, really doesn't let the bike show its true colours.

A new set of well chosen tyres really does change the character entirely, and just how much will be revealed when you are able to make that comparison.

I went down the Bridgestone 020 route, and while I've always been pleased with them, they're not as good as they used to be (Bridgestone changed their construction some years ago).

My next set of tyres will probably be the Conti Road Attacks, or maybe something a little fruitier - Diablo Corsa's perhaps :D

My K3 had the standard Dunlops on when I bought it in February. As I am a new rider it took me a while to build up confidence on the bike. I had 1 inch chicken strips at the rear. About 1 month ago I changed the rear for a Z6 Roadtec. I had read on this site how good they are. However I wanted to reserve judgement until I had a chance to try them and not be swayed by what might be hype. Within 3 days the chicken strips were about half an inch wide. I must agree with the positive things I have read about this tyre. They do appear to have far more grip than the Dunlops and provide excellent feedback.

I have an 020 and i dont find it gives good grip, it likes to spin up and do things that you dont like.

Don't get hung p on chicken strips... Different tyres reach the edge at different points. I took an 020 rear right to the edge after a couple of days commuting... But with the Roadtec rear, it takes a little more effort (put it this way, I have footrest raising plates on mine, and I ride with the balls of my feet on the pegs, but still touched my toe down today at Knockhill *, yet I've still got a wee bit of chicken strip. I doubt I'll get rid of it without dropping the pressure, and Roadtecs feel wobbly at anything under about 36.)

* First time I've done this. Yes, I did **** myself.

That would seem a situation you would not want to be in , embarrising that is and one you would never be let down by peeps. So my recomendation is not to do it.

bt-014's seem to work well for me for track/dry road. I haven't really tried them in the wet - I ride my fazer600 with bt-020's in the wet
