View Full Version : GDBD59 - OFF **Now with some damage Pics**

GDBD59 has come off his Ducati this evening on his way to a Ducati meet a Knockhill.

Gary is currently at Queen Margarets Hospital in Dunfermline suffering from concussion a large lump round the right side of his head and a broken elbow.

He has no recollection of the accident at all. He only remembers waking up as he was being put in the ambulance.

As a result of this all the details are obviously very sketchy but he apparantly came off on the road to Knockhill somewhere between Kelty and the turn off to Knockhill.

I just came back from a trip up there with his wife to try and identify the spot and think we have found it but it is difficult to tell in the dark. Will pop up tomorrow to take some photos.

Now it is obvious that we don't know what really happened but there is a large raised patch of tarmac on an upward sweeping right hand bend just before what is fairly clear is the point where the bike came down and it looks like being a likely candidate.

What the ****. First me then Scooby Drew and now this. Come on SV Ecosse posse. No more please

Jeez, I hope he's comfortable as possible. A broken elbow sounds like a sore injury to carry.

You're right about us having a rough time just now. Maybe the sporadic bursts of good/pi$h weather increases the chances of it, I dunno. :?

Not that it really matters so much, but how much damage to the duke?

Bloody hell, not another. Any idea how long he'll be inside for?

Gary, when you read this the usual offer of help is there if you want a hand with the bike... Hope its in better condition than its pilot, and you heal up well and fast.

This is jogging a memory... Was it on the A823, (road that leads to knockhill) not long after you turn onto it? On the uphill bit? I took a hell of a kick off a bump- or something- on saturday coming up there... I thought I'd just caught pothole or a bad patch that I'd missed, but it was enough to seriously upset the bike. I'd totally forgotten about it, but I remember thinking that I was glad for the better suspension... Hope it wasn't the same place, I'd just written it off as one of those things and never even thought to look on sunday :( I know it didn't happen on sunday, though I was shifting a bit more then.

The hospital are saying 24-48 hours cos they are concerned about the bang to his head and the fact that he was out of it for so long. Im gonna pay him a visit tomorrow.

Scrabbling about in the dark tonight it would appear to have happened on the wee B914 stretch. The section of road after the Y junction when you come off the B915 but before you turn right onto the A823. There was a long series of recent scrape/rubber marks on the road that seemed to indicate the spot.

Thank you for all your good wishes. Gary is to have elbow op this afternoon. Now appears may have right shoulder problems too-it's being X-rayed. Hospital say no visitors today. He's on oxygen and a drip. I might get in later...

Hugs to Blue Flame for his help. :smt008 I'll leave it to him to pass on any other news from us...

Gary was wearing the seperate back protector and doesn't have back or chest injuries - so presumably it did its job ...

I'll see damage to bike later today - apparently all on the front right side and his leather jacket is also damaged mostly right shoulder/arm area. The new Arai is not a pretty sight now.

Just wanted you all to know Gary & I appreciate your comments.

Went to see him at the hospital tonight.

He seemed quite perky (Its easy to tell cos they supply short bedclothes at the hospital  ) but he has understandably poor movement on his left arm which is what the surgery is for (hopefully tomorrow). They are going to have a look at the elbow and if it is just a small fragment that has chipped off then they will take it out and throw it away  but if it is a larger break then they will attempt to repair it.

His facial swelling has gone away but he is starting to show signs of what is going to be a cracking black eye coming out however I suspect that was Shirley earlier on this evening  Shirley has a photo of that & I will post it up when I get it. (just to scare the kids), There are some other photos of the bike and the protective gear (or what's left of it) so if I get a copy of them I will post them up as well.

If he goes for his op tomorrow he will not be allowed visitors and he is hoping to get out after that but we will wait and see.

He is asking after you Scooby. Perhaps you could get together and share anecdotes over perhaps over a chip or two and a few spare ribs...... OK i'll get me coat.

More later.

Cheers

Grant

a cracking black eye coming out - well now it's set up as his avatar

Gary walked to the door of the ward as we left, stretched and told me that all things considered he just felt stiff...

"Not the right time for that, dear"

Some impact... Duke clipons are obviously securely bolted to the forks! From the lid, looks like he was probably out from the moment he hit the ground, they tend not to scrape around like that when you're conscious. Nasty stuff...

I'm home!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for all the good wishes, especially from those of you that I don't know & of course the obligatory stick from some :!: :!:
Special thanks to Blue Flame for his help to my Mrs & the abundant photo's. Cheers Grant.

I'm no wiser as to what happened,- no greater recollection than I had. Visiting the scene this evening before coming home doesn't give me any more clues,- there's a particular bump near the centre of the road which I may have hit, but the only bits where the bike has contacted the road are 100m beyond....... :?:

Anyway, head/eye are going to be ok, time will tell on the elbow.

Cheers for now. Gary
