View Full Version : Boots - inside or outside?

I was reading in last Saturday's Telegraph bike section that wearing jeans tucked inside bike boots was not 'trendy'... I usually wear leathers so outside isn't an option, but on the rare occasion I do wear jeans I wouldn't dream of having them flippy flappy in the breeze!

if i wear jeans and not leathers which is very very rare for me i have them outside my boots
You could look at it this way - if the jeans are outside and ya bin it, they can easily ride up your leg.
Anyways, I think the jeans inside boots looks quite good anyway - but that might be just me

Getting my clubman boots inside my goretex jeans can be done but isnt pleasent, really makes them watertight though. No option on my leathers, they zip tight onto my calf.
As for "trendy"
er......
Do I look like a power ranger?

I have to wear my boots inside my leathers as my sidis wont zip up over the legs.
If I wear boots and jeans I wear the jeans inside.
On the subject of boots, I have lost a couple of screws from my Sidi's, where can I get them from?

Usually outside. I had my leathers inside my boots yesterday morning, but that was with waterproof overtrousers.
The only jeans I ride in are Hood - and thats not very often, and always on the outside after I realised that I looked a total muppet with them tucked in, plus they didnt fit too well inside my boots...

Definately on the outside...would have to pull you over for wearing jeans inside your boots.

I only ride in my bike gear now, I'd have to be nuts to ride without hip armour... But I used to always wear my jeans over my boots, it was uncomfortable otherwise.

Fashion Police as well huh?
Can't get my boots done up with my leathers inside... :(

I wear my jeans inside my boots cos their so tight they're sprayed on and I only wear them if I'm taking my bike to work which is 2 minutes down the road - I know its naughty
MyAlpinestars leather trousers are bootleg so I wear them outside my boots!! Tried the leather trousers with the zip at the bottom but I looked like Max Wall - Not a pretty sight
So I don't think it can be down to fashion how you wear your boots. You'd look a plonker with your tight jeans stretched over your boots, same as you would look like a goof with your bootleg leathers tucked into your boots like a hanky tucked into your top suit pocket

Jeans outside. I don't wish to look like a german soldier thanks.
I mostly wear waterprood goretex jobbies (again outside) or leathers though (inside).

same here
wheres the however I choose option?
Leathers go inside - they wont do up outside. Draggin jeans [the only jeans I wear on the bike now] go over boots due to short leg length and not taking them up yet. Too much material to go inside. Same applies to my goretex jeans - cant get boots over them so they go on outside.

leather = inside the boots
Jean - Out side so it looks like norm shoes!!
I am not a cowboy and i dont want to look like one.
Jeans inside ... Worth a note though, everyone says that riding in jeans is a bad idea and although I not a fan of one pair I do ride with two pairs on. I have had a few crashes when younger like this and the first pair goes through but the second pair holds out fine (well did for me anyway) - I think the first pair kinda side over the second pair or something?

In the old days of riding in mostly just 'normal' jeans - definately inside. But hey, it was the 80's so we're talking tight jeans that would just go over skin - no way would they go over boots too!
Both sets of my leathers can really only be worn on the inside only, though it's a stretch for the Sidi's to zip up over the Alpinestars.
Though I love my skin, I will admit to occasionally riding in normal jeans again now, if it's a short trip to a friends, or something where I'm likely to be spending more time off the bike than on it. But just on really hot days for the comfort of it really.
Then it depends on the jeans - bootcut go outside, sprayed on skinnys go inside.
Personally though I will openly admit to being a blatant hypocrite an always advocate the wearing of leathers or other protective gear...
... and I never ride without a minimum or bike jacket, gloves, lid n boots - but yeah, so I sometimes wear jeans. But that then protects all the unadulterated parts of my body - my legs have survived the worst that the road has thrown at them so far that they occasionally deserve comfort over protection. So ner.
Do as I say, not as I do!

Ive now tested both inside and outside, i must admit they look much better outside my boots, but the flapping really does my head in, and its colder, so it must be inside for the non flappyness and it keeps them a bit cleaner

Being distinctly unfashionable (and proud of it), jeans, when worn, go inside my boots, for the German paratrooper look.

I was going to say inside and laugh at the thought of putting them outside. Then this morning I realised that I could fit the jeans (hood) over the outside. No flapping, boots much more comfy, and not much chance of the jeans riding up in a crash. Not over my fat calfs anyway. So outside for me from now on!

Jeans outside, leathers inside.
Jeans inside the boots and just ignore the funny looks. I admit to wearing jeans on a short trip if I know I'm not going on any fast roads. Yeah I know...

My calves are too chubby to get jeans or leathers inside boots, and therefore they don't flap around either...

I prefer to wear my kevlar lined jeans on the outside of my boots.
