Hi folks,

Just thought I'd put up a message to say that this is the only decent SV site I've found so far, and I've been looking around the net the last few weeks.

Last saturday, I persuaded my fiance to let me upgrade my '86 CG125-BR to the SV650S-K6 :D The dealer had one in, so I took it for a test ride. Very stupid grin on my face when I got back.

I'm not one to buy anything in a hurry, so we took the kids to the supermarket (conviently just next to the bike shop). When we got back to the dealer, someone else had bought the bike. Damn. :(

My SV should be delivered by Friday! Hopefully the god's will be on my side on saturday, and I'll be able to take it for a cautious (baring in mind my recent upgrade - oh, and not forgetting the law) stroll down the A5. Living in North Wales there's lots of little twisty B roads to play on (later, when I've built up confidence).

Anyway, keep up the good work with posts to the site etc, and hopefully I'll get chance to post a fair amount while I'm 'working' :)

Sorry Jabba & Ed, but wont be able to attend :( My 18month old has an operation in Liverpool the same weekend. Already mentionned the event to 'her who must be obeyed', lets just say it didn't go down well.

On another point, blimey you guys are quick... I've been on a lot of forums before, but non have replied so quickly (& warmly  ).

Cheers guys (& girls?)

Hope your little ones operation goes well.

Kids and hospital always equals stressful time.

Cheers dan, he's having his adenoids removed 'cos he's making too much mucus whenever he has the slightest of colds. The operation will be a lot less stressful than him not being able to breathe on a night! Can't remember the number of times I've sat up with him all night & had to call work the next day to explain why I don't feel safe to drive. Luckily they're OK with it (great when you work for an understanding employer).

Anna, as for running the bike in... I commute 24000miles a year, so I'm planning on putting the 2year suzuki warranty to the test lol

Hi, just out of interest why did you choose an SV for 24K pa?
Does everyone here think it's comfortable enough? reliable enough?

Stu, mainly, my pocket. Heh. The suzuki finance deal (0%) caught my eye, and the reason that I've got rid of the CG (24k/yr on a CG ) is that she decided she wasn't going any further than the little bit between the slip road onto the A55 & the A55 itself by the A4080 :(

I also looked at the same size Bandit, but after talking to one of the lads in the office, and sitting on it, it's a little too top heavy to go from a teenie weenie 125 to a bigger bike like that.

Other than that, probably the looks (yes, I've read the Girly bike thread), and the clincher was definately the test ride (on someone else's bike).

I've looked into the comfort & I'm already considering things like replacing the seat for a gel, or even better foam one.

At the end of the day, paying monthly for the bike, insurance etc etc, still works out cheaper than JUST running my Galaxy over the same distance, and my fiance can have the car to run the kids back & forth. Everyone's a winner.

Hello there.

North Wales eh... where abouts?
My parents live in Llanfairfechan, which is where my Mum was born - though my Dad's a Wiltshireman, so he barricades himself in his study whenever the 6 Nations is on!

The A5 is a wonderful stretch up there. Nice little fig 8 circuit from Llanfairfechan to Llanberis, up through to Betwys-y-coed (though the right turn down to Harlech is a good run from there), back through the Ogwen Pass and up the coast to Conwy, then up the vale back to Betwys and home.

I'd do it more often if it wasn't for the fact that my parents aren't particularly happy about bikes. :(

That said - it's also a lovely run in the MG when she's running!

with that sort of mileage a gel seat would be a good investment.
hope kiddies op goes ok and you enjoy your new bike

Welcome!

I was up around those roads last year K... stayed just outside of Betws Y Coed next to the A5.. did Llanberis pass a good few times.... nice to practice my Welsh a bit as well...

I will likely be back up that way at somepoint in next few months... even if its just a day trip there.. the A470's a good enough excuse getting there

Can't fault your reasoning there Baph.
I had a Bandit before and much prefer the SV.
Hope you've also figured on the servicing costs evry 3.5K (I don't know how much £) but I like your reasoning of relying on a 2 yr warrannty then it will be 50K & probably time to change. BTW I get 53 MPG if you haven't already figured out your own mileage.
I feel a bit strange welcoming you to the site when I've only been here 2 weeks myself - but heh- Welcome.

K, I live on Angelsey, couple of miles from Llanfairpwll (my profile has Log & lat co-ords if you want to be more specific).

As for the roads round my way, my daily commute takes me to Denbigh, so I have a choice (and a pretty tricky one at that). Sit on the A55 all the way & save money because my Galaxy was designed to sit at 70mph & run forever, or blast down the A5 & then back up the A543. Both the latter are good roads, but you've gotta watch those pesky sheep on the A543 (a lil toot on the hooter & they soon scamper off). Anyone that knows the area knows that on my CG, just passing my CBT, I didn't have a choice. Learners aint allowed from Conwy to Colwyn Bay on the A55. On the SV, I'll probably go by the weather...

valleyboy & Ed, assuming there's no holdups with the delivery, I need to get to Colwyn Bay on saturday, so I'm hoping to take the SV out for its first run. Since the bike is unknown to me pretty much, I'm planning on sticking to roads I know well. That means from Angelsey along the A55 a little, Down the A5 from the Llandegai turn off, hit Betws-y-coed, up the A470. Not to make anyone jealous, obviously... :D My dad lives in Mochdre, so I might stop off there for a cuppa, and maybe call in at Llandudno to see some old collegues. My ride back will probably take me back on the A55, but I might be tempted to just reverse my outward journey. Oh and valleyboy, I'm sure you know already, but I wouldn't expect the weather to be pretty up this way in a few months time. I'm no fair weather biker, but when it starts getting to the heavy part of winter, the SV will probably sit in the garage. Not long after we moved in here, we had snow that made it dangerous to venture out using 4 wheels, let alone 2 (as in, the A55 was closed from the M56 through to Abergele).

Stu, thanks for the milage stats. My Galaxy (around town) pushes a massive 22mpg! That's if you tickle it, ouch. I've worked on the assumption that the SV will be heavy on fuel, at a typical 33mpg. Before I get banned from the forum for blashpemy, I wanted to make the figures look BAD so it's a worst case scenario. With that in mind, my workings show I save £80/month over just running the car!
Servicing shouldn't be a big issue, a mate of mine (rides a slabside GSX 750 - apparently fills his pants whenever he has to brake hard) has said to keep him some pints in the bin, pay for parts, and he'll service it for me. Handy knowing mechanics like that. But with my milage, I think he'll probably end up teaching me how to service the thing myself. Service every 2months :( As for 50k & change the bike, I'm not sure yet, we'll see how it goes with reliability.

Right, suppose I'd best actually get some work done today...

On a decent run like that you should see over 40 mpg, depending on how hard you ride it

I'm also about to commence a 2,000 miles per month commute from next month, so wish you well

The SV is pretty reliable - check the oil religiously (ie on your knees peering into the sight glass) and you'll be OK

Welcome Baph and congratulations on your new SV! Some great roads around North Wales but watch out for those infernal speed cameras.

Another vote for the A470, too. It forms part of a nice circuit from where I live. Past Bala to Dolgellau, up to Betws-y-Coed and then the A5/A5104 back home.

Perfect for a blast after typically rubbish day in work. Come to think of it  ...what am I still doing here :?:

Heh, depending on times, I may well of passed you. I'll usually leave Denbigh around 5:30. More often than not down the A543 to Cerrigydrudion & right on the A5 home. If you see a blue galaxy (or the blue K6), give us a wave :D

Will do, Baph. If I get away early enough I sometimes call in at A&D motorcycles in Denbigh (where I bought the bike from), just window shopping you understand!

I'll keep and eye out you. I'm also on a Blue K6!

Never actually been to A&D myself, we've got an advert for them up in the office though!

If you see me flashing headlights at you, it's not 'cos there's a speed trap awaiting you, I'm just saying hi. I'll use the hazards to warn of any reasons to slow down (not that I'd warn you of a speed trap since that illegal, obviously :D )
