radiator problem.

basicly i cant see in the viewing glass to see if its full or not so i need to know shall i just fill the rad up to the top of is that bad?

the little bottle that shows you how much coolant you need it has a l and a f on it so u can see the level rise...

i started pouring a bottle of coolant into the rad while waching the viewing thing and even after the rad over flowed the little level never moved to tell me its full or empty.. :S

i know there is no blockage anywhere beocuse i undid the pipes and stuff came out of ther viewing bottle thingy lol

so i was wondering could soem you look in there radiator and tell me where the coolant level is according to the viewing glass thing so i can fill it up without looking at it?

hope this makes sence its hard to get my point across after a few pints lol

im pretty sure its bad if you fill the thing up to the max, due to fluids and gas expanding and stuff.

I filled mine up, rocked the bike around, filled it up again, did some more rocking, turned it over with the starter, and then topped it off to be not quite full. The liquid does expand a bit, but I think its ok with the small amount of air i left in the system. I have put a couple of thousand miles into it since and its fine. There was a small amount of leaking out of the circlips / pipe junctions, but I think that was me not putting them back on tight enough.

Get a really bright torch there and stick it up against the coolant window. Its white plastic, I bet you can see through it even if its misted.

I'm not sure if this is entirely a good idea, but I found giving the big hose at the side a squeeze helped to get air out of the system. AFAIK the reservoir up top is also an expansion tank, so overfillign shouldn't be a problem, but none of this post is BASAT approved.

On my bike the radiator coolant viewing bottle level is well over the max, and so are the front and back brake fluid bottles. The brakes were so full I opened them to add more because I couldn't see a level as they are full to the top. Is this how it would have come new?
Is it a problem?

The manuals on this site here (http://www.sv650.org/sv_manuals.htm) helped me when I needed to refill my system. Although they are down at the mo. I just filled it to the top of the rad, wiggled the handle bars a bit and then topped it up to the top as per the manual.

What year are yours, fill mine(curvy) up in the little filler under the tank, loosen the radiator cap till it starts dripping out. tighten radiator cap then run the bike with the filler cap under the tank off to let the last of the air out. If you over fill it it runs out of the overflow pipe anyway.
