Following on from a discussion about Dr Who, who are your favourite baddies in films/tv?

Darth Vader was great, as was Darth Maul.
Daleks were great
the Bruce Payne character in Passenger 57 (dire film!) was great - when he asked the chap about his family on the plane (you know the bit if you've seen it)
Man bites dog was great (it was rather Belgian but very good)

Any others people would care to mention?

Hi

I'd vote for Samuel L Jackson who played Jules Winfield in Pulp Fiction. A real BAD erm....Oh this is U Rated! Well he played a great part in this great film.

Some of my many fav lines......

Vincent: Have you ever given a foot massage?
Jules: [scoffs] Don't be tellin' me about foot massages. I'm the foot f**kin' master.
Vincent: Given a lot of 'em?
Jules: S**t yeah. I got my technique down and everything, I don't be ticklin' or nothin'.
Vincent: Would you give a guy a foot massage?
[Jules gives Vincent a long look, realizing he's been set up]
Jules: F**k you.

That was the most overrated film ever - complete toss!!! (no offence to you Cronos!)

And the only interesting thing about Wizard of Oz was the fact that the main star, playing a wholesome girl was a heroin addict!

Oh, and the Fly 2 was interesting - the Eric Stoltz guy (sort of anti-hero) was good:

Oh no, you're getting worse!
No, I'm getting *better* (as he morphed into a fly)

And the Tim Burton Batman film was very good - Michael Keaton was perfect for it.
And actually, the character Michael Keaton played in Pacific Heights was also a good baddie.

You're right - he wasn't rubbish in that (I was thinking of films like "Flesh and blood", "A breed apart" etc etc) - he was harmless in it. I don't think he brought anything to the role that anyone else couldn't have done. Much overrated film in my opinion.

Just didn't find him intimidating. It seemed such an out of character role. I think the sign of a good actor is whether when you're watching them you see the character, not the actor, and I just saw ben Kingsley. Feel the same about David Jason - great as Del-boy and the bloke from Open all hours, but everything else he's rubbish. Very high opinion of himself as well.
I think Ray Winstone only plays one type of character well, but it's the evil ones he does best.

Never really got goodfellas either - tried watching it a couple of times but lost interest quite quickly. Got to the bit whe he's winding up Ray Liotta, but again, ham in my opinion.

I was wondering about "The Master" the other day - not been in the recent series, tho I thought that is who Peter Kaye would be playing when I saw him in the preview clips a few weeks back. Can't really remember any previous appearances very well, so I would have to withold from making comment. Where would you consider him to be?

No seen Nosferatu.
Saw "The Bat" many years ago, which Bela Lugosi starred in and it was ok, tho dont' really like the genre. Good song about him tho, if that counts for anything?

Yep Alan Rickman gets my vote for outshining Costner in RH and for his performance in Die Hard. Not to mention as the Potter books are getting darker he will certainly do the role of Snape justice when they film the latest book.

On the Keanu front, someone will probably mention Agent Smith, but I don't think he was bad enough.

Someone is bound to mention Blue Velvet now, but I'll correct them now and point out that the film was rubbish and hammed up. :-D

GC is first listed, but I also included Lucy Lui as she was superb in Kill Bill. I guess other female baddies could include Faye Dunaway as Bonnie Parker in Bonnie & Clyde, whoever played Ma Baker in the film about the Bakers.

Ed Norton, not sure as such. Because at the end he renounces his extremist views and regrets what he did, the film is deliberately filmed as a recollection of how he got to that point rather than a step by step plot IYSWIM. But I still shudder to think of that kerb scene. But absolutely cracking film and superb use of B&W and colour to distinguish between past/present.

Continuing in the vein, the guy who played the corrupt cop in Mississipi Burning, top film based on a true story.

possible SPOILER if you haven't seen American History X

Agreed - this is one of my favourite films. The thing which it poses though is (and i'll try not to ruin it for anyone who hasn't seen it) but given the ending, casts a massive shadow over his renunciation and poses the 'what now?' question. The final moments have such gravity to completely undo all that has gone before, illustrating how fragile and fractured these situations are. This is also why I found something like Crash awful. The film-makers have gone for hard-hitting drama, yet neatly tie up everything into a tidy digestable package.
