hi,
my sv is due for it's 4000 mile service. Any idea how long it takes? the only other bke i've had serviced is an rv125 vanvan and this had to be taken to the garage in the morning and serviced in the afternoon coz it needed to cool down. Is this the case with the sv? Can anyone give me a rough idea of how much it will cost?
thanks!
Been quoted £125 all in infinity farnborough. Mine due too so keen to see replies.

Do it yourself for about £30 for the oil and filter. The rest of the small service is pretty much "checking, lubing and adjusting if required".

the chain needs adjusting coz when i want it to go into neutral it won't and when i'm accelerating and kick up from 2nd to 3rd it always goes back into neutral and i look like an idiot!

I dropped my bike off at 9am & it was ready at 1130am.
The service is easy enough to do yourself but would invalidate your warranty unfortunatley.
Although the decision lies wi you.
Out of warranty I service the bike, but coming up for the 14,000 shortly & I'm gonna get the dealer to do it.

That's what I do.Basic services myself, but if anything complicated like valve shims needs doing,it goes to the expert.
Zsx----You need to learn to carry out basic adjustments like chain tension yourself. As your chain gets older it will need looking at far more often than service time so get yourself a few basic tools,a paddock stand and get tinkering
Honestly the chain is easy to adjust and will last much longer if you keep it lubed and tensioned.Oil and filter changes are very easy too,and doing this yourself will instantly pay for the tools and stuff.

When i had my 4000 mile service last year, i got to the garage at 9am when they opened and waited for my bike and it was done by about 11:30. It doesn't take that long but like you say they like it to cool down for a bit and so my bike stayed outside for about half an hour before they touched it. I think they charge about an hours labour, and mine cost me £111.

That sounds more like your clutch cable needs adjusting.
I do the opposite though. I have the garage do the minor service, regardless of which interval it is, then I do the rest of the work myself. For instance, I've just had a 15000 miles service. The garage did the oil change and checking parts, I did the plugs and valve clearances etc. Might seem backward, but I still get a stamp in the book to show full dealer sevice history, and it costs next to nothing. They also clean the bike for me, something which is rare for me to do

i've just booked my 4000 mile service (at 5500 miles, haha - but i did change oil/filter when i got the bike at 3000). It's going in on the 17th at Greenwich Metropolis, quoted £135 for the service. getting something else done though, so dunno how long (they asked for all day but quoted 1hr extra labour).
I tend to take stuff to dealers for servicing and fix/maintain anything else myself, quite happy to do any work as long as i have the tools/access to the tools, and a guide of some sort (google is my best friend!). but i want that service stamp :D as at the end of the day it does help maintain value.
