..but my thoughts have turned to the middle of winter and what to do about a freezing hands. Got through last winter using muffs and although they worked well in reducing wind chill they felt really odd and I never felt comfortable with them on. I'm a daily rider doing a 15 mile commute on fast roads and town. What's the general feeling out there on heated grips versus heated gloves?

bbrrrrr

Never tried heated grips. Got some good gloves but as with any gloves after 30 miles of motorway commute my hands are frozen.

All I can hope is that global warming heats winter up a bit! :D

Heated grips are great!

It's also nice to know that when the summer ends, you can dial up the grips whenever you need it so you can wear your summer gloves for longer.

I fancy heated gloves before this year's out... grips are good but for real weather they don't cut it IMO. If you want to do some riding in the cold, they're great. If you want to do 50 miles in freezing rain, they just put off the inevitable. I was going to get a vest too, till I got my ridiculously warm Belstaff Celsius jacket.

But for a 15-minute commute, grips and Pathans should see you right.

I got a set of wrap around hot grips on ebay last winter and they are good enough for most weather as long as you have waterproof gloves. They are also instantly removable.(Velcro on).As they only cost 99p plus postage I really rate them.

I've got 2 pairs of winter gloves and I'm sure there must be somewhere on the bike I can wedge one pair so it'll get nice and warm, without falling out and then I can just change between them every half hour or some. Anyone done this? Where is good to heat the pair? I either leave them on the exhaust or wedge them in the frame to heat them when stopped, but I think on the move they'd probably fall out.

I just put up with chilly fingers. 99% of the time, its only the extreme tips of my fingers that get cold.
