Helmet Camera

Just bought a helmat camera and camcorder, not just for biking as I reckon I should be able to get some good ski shots with it too. I will be testing it out on the SV soon, and will try and use it at my upcoming Zolder trip.

Anyone used one of these before and got any tips?

I'm going to try it on the helmet and on the bike itself, using tape to mount initially, perhaps with a bit of foam to insulate from the vibrations when mounted to the bike.

Problem with helmet cams is that they move with your head, so you don't get such a great experience of the "lean angle" (as your head should be upright). You also get the movement when you look at the clocks etc...

Fixing it to the bike would be a better option, if you can....

Slow panning isn't really a luxury you have when you're blatting around... anyone watching it would soon get sea sick... :D

Will tape it to the bike, it's pretty small so shouldn't be a problem.

You can try actioncameras.co.uk mate as this is where i got mine. With respect to the lean angle.....this may sound wrong but i actually found when skiing if you attach it to your boot you get a better feel for the speed and better angulation......applies to the bike too although i nearly killed it when getting a knees down!!!

I have one of their kits; pack 5.

Just used it "for real" this weekend at a trackday.

The helmetmounted viewpoint is by far the coolest.
It shows how you move around on the bike and if you are behind another bike then the camera will naturally follow him, because he is where you're going.

I'll show you once I get my video edited.

One advice though: Don't power the helmetcam from the bike, use the supplied batteripack.
Otherwise you'll get static in the image (like me :oops: )

Thanks for the tips, going to try and give it a go this weekend. Thinking about taking it out for my first track day, but think I'll have other things to concentrate on more than faffing with the camera.

One other thing, does the velcro sticky tape in the rf kits affect your helmet if you attach it and leave it on?

I used duct tape and took it off at the end of the trackday.
It didn't even leave any glue residue :)

When trackdaying do you put the camera doing the recording in a bum bag, or rucsac? And do the organisers mind you doing this?

This time I had the camera on my tank mount.
But I found out that it actually fits in the storage space under the passenger seat.
I'll put it there next time :wink:

The organisers didn't mind.

I had originally intended to use a bumbag, but the one I brought turned out to not fit me when wearing my leather suit (forgot to test that before I went :roll: )
