Filled up the tank at Cumbernauld on Sun just before the rideout

Took 6 quid to fill it up (on the sidestand)

Now I always thought that the reserve light came on on mines about 160 miles but when I was taking the bike to work on Wed morning, the light flickered on during downhill braking then went back off again and went on/off a couple more times on the M74. This was with 189 miles since sunday

Filled up at Hamilton services, the bike took 12.65 litres to fill it, again on the side stand

By my reckoning, I could have probably went for approx 60 more miles

Question - is this a record :?: :D

Did not hammer throttle on Sun although at times, wasn't hangin about either, especially on the motorways.

I take it this is on an SV and not the bike in the avatar???

If so, then possibly a record.

I have stretched a tad over 200 miles out of my sv, but had to push it to the petrol garage.

Tony, positive mate, I parked up just inside (almost back at the main road) the forecourt at Mid Lix, bought crisps etc but defo no fuel as the bike never moved from where it was.

Was really surprised by the mileage as when it was restricted, it returned 55mpg consistantly

Gonna start keepin the miles done to what it takes to fill it all the time now just to see if sunday was a fluke although havin said all that, I was gettin 68mpg with the sportster consistantly

I was getting 55 mpg when I was running mine in, but alas no more. Sure it would do it again if I kept it below 5500 rpm though. Now it runs dry at about 180 miles from a full tank.

same for me 180 is about my maximum...

Whats the mileage penalty/fuel saving for filling up on the sidestand as opposed to on the level?

And why don't bikes have centrestands anymore...

see quite a few people actually sitting on their bikes whilst fuelling up, dont know how much is gained though

And why don't bikes have centrestands anymore...

cause they are so goddam ugly, they totally detract from the look of any bike they're fitted to

Apparently its bad form fueling the bike whilst sitting on it... mate who is a polis says...

If you have your lid on then the fumes drift and can possibly disorientate you. Petrol fumes can invoke hallucinagenic episodes shortly after. Apparently petrol sniffing was popular like glue sniffing years ago.

If a spark occured then you are at risk of fire and the bike toppling which prevents your escape route.

or

If you fill the tank then step off and you forget the stand then your risk dropping the bike, petrol spill, sparks and fire.

When you think about it you dont sit in your car and fill the tank so it seems sensible to me...

Taxi!

Does he think its bad form to break the speed limit, I hope you heed his advice on that one too????

If you step off and forget the side stand your a FOOL!!!

I can't reach my petrol tank from inside my car I HAVE TO GET OUT if I am going to fill the car, having said that WHY do I HAVE to get out and fill the car when its ain't mine???

Always fill my bike sitting on it, always, and always take my lid off and gloves to do it...

i always get off bike to fill it up, as you have to get off to pay anyway. plus on sv cant reach the ground comfortably enough to hold bike up. had a seat on DDs daytona when i was down last weekend. couldnt reach the ground at all. a good half a foot either side. could just reach the pegs. but the raptor woohoo both feet flat. cronos had a seat on raptor, said it was like a mini moto. he stood up while astride the bike and it the seat came to mid thigh - lanky git lol

182.4 was my maximum to reserve, could have got over the 200 mark to reserve if it weren't for me gunning it a number of times.

Average 120-125 before the light comes on.

So that's about 2/3 of the tank?

So 180 could be done if the riding is smooth.

Haven't run it dry yet, too chicken :D

I'm getting about 130miles on average when my light starts to flash on my pointy, i'm on 141.3 miles at the moment still no light, so hopefully i have either a really good tank, or my light is broke .
