Ok so I mentioned doing a trackday a little while back, actually at Brands Indy, quite a few people were game. Someone mentioned that several SVers were doing Lydden 5th Aug 06.

Anyhooo … I have now booked onto the Lydden trackday today!!! :thumleft:

Anyone else up for it? :riding:

The original post is slightly hidden? On the SELKENT forum, but to be fair people wider than that will probably not see it, so this is an opportunity to open it to all :)

Here is the original thread http://forums.sv650.org/viewtopic.php?t=39663

Oh and if anyone en-route from Portsmouth (A3, M25 etc) wants a lift rather than ride there, I can squeeze another bike in my van :driving:

Hummmm nil-response!!

To try and inspire people I asked Mr Google if he had any onboard videos of Lydden … not only did he come up trumps, but I lucked out … I got one that was actually taken onboard an SV 8) … during a minitwins race!!! Watch this and tell me you don’t want to get out there and give it a crack yourself?!?!? :riding:

I'm interested, when you going? night before or early morn?

Signing on is 8am, so best to get to the track about 7:30am, perhaps just before. If I travel alone, I was going to go up the night before and sleep in the back of the van (with my bike :makelurve: ).

There will be some B&Bs round there (or even a campsite??) that if there was a bunch of us we could book in there the night before and have a chat/social down the bar the night before, this will make the morning start more acceptable and be a good opportunity for us to all say hi.

Get booked on tomorrow!!

I have watched that vid over and over, I’m gagging to get out there now!! :)

But I have to wait a couple of weeks yet :( … so more googling  … I found another Lydden vid :- http://www.alexbaileyracing.com/media/lyddentd26305.wmv this one looks like it is shot on a 600, but probably gives a clearer view of the track as it is longer and less traffic, looks like it is on a trackday … in the novice group …

I might be up for this. I was going to rdie down on Saturday, but working out times, it means I'need to live rather early. If the B&B isn't too expensive then I'll be up for riding down on Friday night.

Ok, just rang the circuit, supposedly it will be open on Friday evening and camping isn’t a problem. So if we all get there Friday eve, we can have a BBQ and bevy and a chin wag/BS about how we could kick Rossi’s behind!!

Oh and stu369 – Lydden is a small circuit, ideal for the SV, but not really the sort of place to stretch a 600 or thou.

As it was a trackday? The vest will indicate an instructor.

Why would they make a first timer wear a jacket (and stick them out with faster riders!!!)??

What is left to be done to your SV? :)

On track days you tend to get 2 types of High Visability markers.

The instructor ones tend to say "Instructor" (cunning innit)

The plain ones are optional for anyone who has not done a track day before or is worried about what they will be doing. Even in the novice group there will be a fairly broad range of experiance and pace, and it lets people know to give you extra space and that you're more likley to be nervous. Cutting the nose off someone wearing a "first timer jacket" tends to be met with fairly heavy talking to so it's one less thing to worry about.

Every event organiser has it's own rules, but the above have been common on the few I've done.

That’s a good idea, never seen it implemented before, which t-day company do that?

Have seen it done with "Focused Events" and I Think "The motorcycle Folly" did it too. As stated, it's just one way of working and they techniques used by different organisers are the ones they feel work best for them. The most important thing is to pay attention at the morning breifing when all the details like this are given out.

This sounds good as long as the weather is good. Problems though - I don't have a tent, or really want to carry a tent down with me has I don't have any means to fasten it on. I also don't own a sleeping bag! In fact, I don't own anything camping related!

Are there any B&Bs within stumbling distance of the campsite?

Here is a list of local places to stay (scroll to the bottom).

http://atlas.usp.net/bmrc/venuedetails.cfm?venue=176&continent=%20UK

I don’t think you are en-route from Pompey, but there might be someone going from your way in a van/car that can take a tent for you?

That also gives you the address of the circuit, I am sure there will be b&b search engines out there that if you bang in a location/postcode it will tell you b&bs in the area?

I had to look at that a few times myself to decide, but no I think he was just carp/erratic (he certainly nearly caused a few comings together in both races!!), he went wide and lost ground, the ‘puff’ of smoke was a bike in front running through some powder (probably there coving an oil spill). That’s how I read it anyway :) The bloke certainly made it out for race 2 (as he was there being annoying again) and the bike didn't look bodged/repaired.

Mmmm, have you sprinkled it with custard powder to make sure that it gives off the right smell to go along with the colour?

Looks very purposeful, although those pillion pegs may not be of much use! Have you got a spec sheet/summary of what you've done?

Will you be in the novice group? if so look forward to it passing me on saturday.

It is very yellow isn’t it … you won’t miss me!! It was a yellow bike to start with … its now an even more of a yellow bike

Ok best way to summarise …

Take a standard 30k+ mile (I say + as the speedo wasn’t working when I got it, so it could have done double that!!?!?!) crash damaged 01SVS, rip the fairing off, hack the rear mudguard/numberplate bit off … put on a 2nd hand race fairing. Put a R6 twistgrip on, put a ZX636 shock and shorter dogbones on … put a temp gauge on. Insert 80 racetech springs and emulators, 15w oil in the front. Put a 14t front renthal sprocket on … Put some 2nd hand Supercorsa’s on and you get what you see!!

Yep in beginners …

No its coz I hadn't bothered taking them off  ... its not like it is going to make a (significant) performance difference and I have spent lots of time doing everything else .. you know important stuff like positioning the Fox stickers .

Anyhow, I had given some thought to the rear pegs myself … I need the hangers on at least, first of all the exhaust is mounted on one … and I thought I might be able to mount my little camera somehow to the other :)

Hopefully if we both attempt to take footage at Lydden, between us we might get something :)

There is usually some latitude to move groups during the day. This is even easier if the day isn’t fully booked. Its in their own interest to allow people to ‘shuffle’ as necessary. What are you going to bring??? I gave the bike a good ol' check, filled up the Scottoiler, put on the exhaust protector & cleaned the visor.

Packed my stuff last Sunday....just can't remember what I put in my travel roll so will have to check this evening.

Will wash and polish the bike tonight, a clean bike goes 10 mph faster, stops quicker and grips more, a commonly known fact.

Everything :) ... 2 bikes for a start  (I am hoping the 2nd one will never even have to come out of the van [-o< ).

… Ahhh!!! just realised I forgot to get is some ‘tinnys’ for tonight :(

Oh well, I am sure I can stop off on the way :)

Everything eh? Does that mean I can leave my proper toolkit behind, and borrow from you if I have to tighten anything? :D

Man this sounds fun, hope you guys have a good time! One question: Do you all have track bikes? I only have one bike, and I am afraid that if I bin it on a track day I'm stuffed; no money, no bike, no transport to job etc?? :?

I don't think many have track only bikes - I certainly don't. I will be pottering around slowly in the novice group, so the bike shouldn't come to much harm.

I 'should' have the tools to do just about anything you require, as long as I get them back, then no problem to borrow. :) That doesn't mean it will be a Blue_SV650S's tools free-for all ... but if you are riding your bike there (i.e. not practical to bring your own tools) then I'd be glad to help :) To be honest I’ll probably help you do the spannering anyway as I enjoy that sort of thing. 8)

If you have any ‘special’ tools then you might want to bring them mind?

Oh and I intend to set things like 'sag' and damping up tonight, so if anyone else wants to do the same we can have a 'suspension session' :)

I have packed some Avery labels and got a big fat black marker, so we can write on them and work out who is who :)

Now question is do we confuse matters by putting real name or just use .org username?!!?

p.s. I am setting off in a bit, so see you all there!! :)

I don't expect anything to come loose, but it is good to know that someone has the right tools just in case.

Special tool eh? Depends on your definition!

Oh no, I am going to miss out on my favourite topic by not being at the track at any useful hour this evening...

Only one bike, this will be my second track day, hoping not to bin it as I've got to ride home to Belgium afterwards. As my ability is currently less than the bike as long as I retain some form of self control I should be fine. Although i do have a company cage for work so I suppose I'm not in exactly the same situation as yourself.
