bit of a story- not too busy up there today - from 12to 2ish.. ...
there were 2 big groups up there- a load of cruisers. harleys etc.. from Essex.. who are off over to camp in Sheffield..
and a group called the Blue Knights- from downsouth somewhere.... who- apparently are all police officers.. !!...
some nice bikes though..
came across an R1 in a field onthe way up.! and a biker and bike in a field on the wway down... he had , had a nasty off!!... anyway we got the bike out with some vcar drivers who stopped and I waited with him cos he was alone for an hour until the recovery van came- was worried he was in shock and didnt wanna leave him alone... not that I am any good medically- I am a wuss !... well he's ok.. and bike can be mended- bike had wrapped itself around a telegraph pole.. boy he was sooo lucky-- was on a courtesy biek too cos his was in the dealers !!... oops..
anywya the pics..
just loads of pics.. have fun.. oh and 2 vids athe end .. first lot the essex cruisers.... then second vid the police bikers in their leisure time.. ... AND- the biker Istopped for said the essex cruisers had passed him and he had flagged them down and none of them stopped.. but there were a lot of them and it was a hard place on a sharp bend to stop.... .. in fairness.. while stood there- EVERY biker that passed thumbed up to see if we were OK.. .....
oh and an Aston Martin DB7 gold colour with Mr gaffa as the reg.. screamed passed us. ar$ole... ! not cos he didnt stop - just cos he drives an Aston and I am jealous..
PICTURES >>>>> nice bikes..

I keep saying I'm not a fan of Aprilias (after my RS125 experience), but I am starting to think the Mille could be the way to go (if I can find a decent colour scheme). SP2's are lovely but very expensive. Decisions, decisions.

They do an all satin black paint scheme for the Factory with the Blue OZ wheels and the Ohlins forks. Looks gorgeous.

It's a 2t mate, what do you expect. Most RS125s have been thrashed by kids, mine blew up after a month, loved that bike :(. I would still love an RS250 though, for the track/barely road legal.

the near one - 749 says his plate fell off somewhere on the way up here..! ...
and he says he took it for a service locally- but they couldnt get a paddock stand to fit.!!...??????????? so he had to go to a Ducati place in manchester/.. make sense?

One of these pulled up next to me a couple of weeks ago - Looked lovely! Not really an Aprillia fan, but this bike did look sweet. Also looked expensive if it ever met the tarmac!

No Way! the 748/916 is the best looking bike ever! If you look at them from the side the 748 has simple unbroken smooth crisp lines, whereas the 749 is a lumpy b*gger with funny looking headlights! I also have issues with indicators in the wing mirrors

Not purely because I have the 749, but the more you see them next to the 748 they really do look better. The 748 is a beaut and will always have a special place in people's affections would there is no way I would swap for one.
That Mille is a 2004 version and that too can be had with all of the factory goodies. That MV-esque colour scheme is the one I love. They went a bit over the top last year with the Lion symbol on the fairing for me. But then again I am Mr.Understated.
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b326/sigourneysbeaver/catnfiddlesat15th028.jpg
Unless he's got the rear indies intergrated into the taillight, I can't see any.
I can see the hole where the stock ones would have gone - but that's it. :?

Young Master Millar.....they aint that bad to have made me opt for the wrong one mate.
I cannot see how anyone, looking back from one to the other would say the 748 looks better than the at 999! The 999 is gorgeous and in comparison the 748 looks rickety and half done. Move on guys get with the programme!
p.s.I would love a 748 purely as a toy but my 749s winds hands down.

Okay, One of these bike looks sharp, and lean, the other one looks like it needs to go on a diet. Granted the 749 may not break down as much as the 748, but just on aesthetics - come on!!! You just need to look at the single sided swingarm!
PH, I guess we'll have to agree to disagree on this one  But we all know you're wrong!

Lukey chappie...The single sided swinger is the key point here. Go around to the side where it is and it doesn't look very special at all. I fully agree the look from the non swinger side is cool.
However even Tamburini himself had big reservations about incorporating the single arm as he considered it far from the ideal "engineering solution". (Are you impressed that I know that mate? Go on you are! )
(I bet all the above talk about swingers as got a few extra peeps interested now!)
They all look like every other duke... where are the mods! Gee....

Highly doubt the indis are there Richie mate, they will most likely be in the tail light since it's an aftermarket one. I also like the double swinger on the 9s rather than the single on the 8s, just looks tider, don't like the 3 spoke wheels either, but I do liek the 5 spokes on the Sps was it? Some special edition.

They'll be in the tail light, but lest us not forget he might not have any at all, not like it's a legal requirement.

The 748 for me.
Some geezer has got one for sale near me...yellow'un. It is stunning...really is!
The single sided swing arm is purely cosmetic as it adds weight cos it needs to be stiff! Looks good though and suits the 748.

Easy answer this! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO..........never
I dont care how much more reliable or better handling the new 749/999s are they will never look as sexy as the 748/916, a style icon.
sorry Peter

Thing with the 748s is they really aren't that expensive by today's standards (okay maybe given the age) but I have seen quite a few for around the £3500-£4000. Problem is having theft insurance in London. If I say the bike is worth £4000, the premium is £4000! So it will have to remain a dream for now. P&H had 2 very nice R models the other day, slightly more expensive, but with lovely parts.
