Try Tesco Opticians, you can do it online, or over the phone, you just need your prescription to set up your "account", then you can do it automatically once it's all set up.
I pay £19.80 for a months worth of Focus Dailies (I should use torics).
It's worth a looksie :)

Hi,
I went this route (buying online) myself a while ago. You can get some very cheap deals via the internet...
I used this lot: http://www.contactlenses.co.uk/index.php
BUT
You really need to have you eyes checked regularly... and therein lies the problem. An optician will usually charge you for a checkup if you don't but you lenses from 'em. (this cost usually offsets the savings) This coupled with the fact that you have get the contact lens prescription from them (which they have to provide... but don't seem to like doing!) has put me off. Just because of the hassle factor.
Anyway, I now get mine from Boots. It seems like the big boys are now realising they are losing customers to the online suppliers and becoming more competitve. I wear monthly disposables, and it costs me £6.00 a month, which includes a yearly checkup and delivery to my door. Worth a look anyway...
Good luck!

Went to Boots for a trial on contacts over the cooler months, started cheap but the price went waaaay up as i tried the comfort level of diff types.
Finally settled for 1 day acuvue moist lenses right up till they said £56 a MONTH!!!
Ok they cost about £36 when i last looked online.
Colin
PS I cant even wear em in the summer :( haysever meds preclude the lenses :( but on the upside, when its foggy in the autumn/winter i will finally be able to flip up the visor and see :)
I use everyday 30's at 15.50 a month from specsavers... leave them in for 30days and nights... its great. I even have the high oxygen ones else my eyes starve. No problems. :D

I got a pretty good package from Dolland and Atchison, can't recall exactly what it is, it's around £8 for 15 dailies (I don't wear them often so I'm on a half order). But, the discount that i get for being on Contact Lenses By Post on my glasses basically paid for a year's supply! They're not flash but neither are they rubbish.
One thing... I was previously on monthlies with a toric in one eye... I've now switched to dailies with no toric. Both opticians I saw were extremely scathing of daily torics, saying that they've never seen anyone get consistent positioning with them- the toric isn't as stable as it is with monthlies and it ends up moving too much, apparently. So he basically said, have monthly torics or daily plains, don't spend money on daily torics.

funny you should say that i have noticed that focusing with them does take a while but the comfort is very very good

I have to admire you lot with the guts to wear contact lenses, just the thought of putting something onto my eye makes my stomach churn.
Part of me thinks what the heck, book in for laser treatment for my slight short sightedness ,and then I think what if it goes wrong. So I think for now I will stick to the bins. If I forget them it is no big deal. I just have to ride faster to get nearer to the signs

I used to be like you, putting them in isn't as bad as getting them out... I still find that quite tricky.

Good plan, but do your research  You don't want some dodgy backstreet-Dr-Evil with his "lazer" firing away at your eyes willy nilly

I think you need tol ask Tara's advice on how not to get them out. Like put them in first

Owww!!!!!!!!!!
Tried contact lenses 'bout 12 years ago. Hated every minute. A pain to put in, a nightmare if you get a hair underneath them - it's just like taking a razor blade to your eye. And all that cleaning & sterilising.
Once I managed to get a green fly under my lens. Nightmare to get out - bits of wing & leg came out piece by piece. My eye killed. I could barely see. Should probably have pulled over to the side of the road at the time, but I'd just fixed a puncture & was late for tea.
My advice: Stick to spectacles.

Same here! Just stick them in at the beginning of the month and throw them away at the end of the month, easy.

i rememeber, that was the first time we met you want it!!
but OW!!!!! and HOW!!!
any hoo
im use Specsavers monthlies, £13 a month, where em all waking hours, and if u sleep in them by mistake, no worries, like the other nite...
Plus all checups are free, so are additional eye tests i think, lus u get a booklet with deals like half price glasses, free lenses if u rip one.
Works out 3x the cost of glases as a pair on average lasts me 3 yrs, but oh so much better and worth every penny!!!
Rgds

£12 pm monthly disposables for me. bit of upkeep required i.e. cleaning them everynight but thats no big deal it quickly becomes part of the routine.
next year i plan to go for it and have my eyes lasered.
or is it lazered?
open wide....
For me teh troublewith the laser option is:
1) It's permanent so if they mess up. Game over you're getting a dog & a white stick
2) They have to cut the cornea open to perform the surgery, then afterwards you're walking around with an eye with a hole in - say a fly gets in? Or something drops out?
Designer specs for me!
Got a pair with the bendy metal so they fit snuggly inside my shoei.

Does anybody know of an optician who wears contacts or has had lazer surgery? cos everyone I've ever seen wears glasses
I'm a wimp and couldn't handle either
See I was speaking to the lovely Eastern European lady at my opticians and she says they aren't encouraged to wear contacts at work, and it's much better for customer relations if they wear glasses, so maybe that's why they all wear them. It's just a reassurance thing.
Some of them can probably see perfectly well...
Or do I just believe in marketing conspiracies too much...
:D

Yep, had a presentation done by a guy who performs the laser surgery. He had had it done and had done the surgery on his daughter too. Unfortunately there is little point me having it as it would only reduce my perscription to -7 so I would still have to wear contacts or glasses all the time.
