View Full Version : Haxsaw
I cant thank you enough for all your kind words and I know that they mean a lot to his family, this thread will be printed out for them to look through at their own pace.
We have news now that his funeral will be 27th July and for those that wish to attend are welcome. It will be in Bath around 11ish but details are to be confirmed. Anyone who wishes to go please PM me.
What is are his family's point of view on motorcycles attending :?:
I think this is quite an important point.
So far his family have been more then understanding about the whole thing and whilst this is a very difficult time for them their general views are whilst it isnt something they would do they would not discourage any of us and if you wish to get there by bike then by all means do so.
I dont think they wish for a huge possession or anything like that and it may be that as it will be a small venue that some of the biking lot are at the back.
I have asked his brother and he has expressed his wish that we attend.

I haven't been able to post on this subject until now. I'm not sure why. I didn't really know Dan, I only met him once.
I think this brings to mind how short and precious life really is.
Resting in peace must be hard for one so young, but what else is there to say.

I know what you mean...... it was only last night that I told Mrs Jabba about Dan and that I'd booked a day off to go to the funeral. Waited until she's had a few bevvies first, too.
Hard thing to face that it could have been any one of us.
I'm sure he will rest in peace.
Can't think of anything to say that hasn't already been said.
I never knew Dan, don't think I ever chatted about anything with him on the forum even.
I've not known any of the poor lads who have died from here, yet it always brings a big lump to my throat when I read the posts.
RIP Dude, maybe I'll ride with you in the next one.
Be carefull people, please.
I usually drive into work, but on Thursday 27th have decided to ride my bike into work in Dan's honour.
I didn't get to meet Dan, but he was one of us.
RIP.

Some messages from some other riders from elsewhere...
Walrond (Wade), Kaiserslautern, Germany
Everytime I hear about a fellow rider passing I wonder if I should continue riding myself. I don't think I will ever quit because of the enjoyment it brings me, but it does make me pause. Pass along my condolences to his family and take reassurance that he was doing something he enjoyed at the end.

These things make us understand that a broken engine is really nothing.
Let's continue driving safe and doing something your friend would do if he's among us. My condolences to his family and friends

I guess I'm first back?
Went well and a good turnout from here.
Anna's address was very good, as was Mac99's.
Glad I went.

Yep I got back OK
I'm glad I went. I agree with Jabba everybody who spoke. Spoke well and really summed Dan up nicely and caught his personality.
Long may he live on in our memories.

Pleased that you were able to represent an important aspect of Dan's life.
Speaking as a parent of a biker  I feel it would be of some (small) comfort to his family to hear about Dan in terms that perhaps they were maybe not so aware of.
I know you all attended for private and personal reasons, but well done gang, you done Dan (and us) proud.
Thanks =D> =D>

Cheers fella - much appreciated.
Speaking personally, I'd be feeling much worse now if I hadn't gone. I'm sure that the others feel the same.
I would just like to say a big thank you for all your support, comments, PM's, and lovely words and thoughts at this time. I really can not tell you what this has meant to me, those who were there that day, Dan's friends and his family who have read this site.
I would also like to pass my thanks onto the moderators who have looked after this thread and made sure that it has always remained respectful to Dan's memory. It made me feel secure in the knowledge that when i directed his family to the site and this thread, that it was appropriate to do so knowing that you guys were overseeing this. A thankless job on many occassions but much appreciated.
It was lovely to see so many turn out to Dan's funeral and a lovely send off to a great guy who so obviously will be missed.
I will be posting up a thread.. (advise here please) about a donation to the air ambulance it would be nice if we could create one of those website donation links that people are able to gift aid money to it (I think ping created one when she was doing the charity parachute jump but not sure how to go about this). That way we are able to show his family our contribution.
There are also a few points that have been highlighted in the wake of this terriable incident and I think it is now an appropriate to bring them once again to the forefront of peoples minds.
In case of emergency details... in this particular incident we were fortunate to have Mac99 with us who were able to give a lot more information to the emergency services then we might have been able to do. However, please all of you make sure that when you ride in a group you carry with you your emergancy details, insurance, next of kin etc to be able to give those who are riding with you the opportunity of being able to help you should something happen whilst on a ride out. In your mobile phone please list your next of kin under "ICE" .. in case of emergency.
I carry a little form in my wallett and have done since joining the first ride out with the S&W lot it looks something like this:-
************************************************** ******************
EMERGANCY INFORAMTION
Full name:......................................
SV Forum name:................
Home address:....................
.......................................
........................................
Home contact name:........................
Tel no:.............................................
medical conditions(e.g no penicillin)........
.................................................. .........
Bike Reg No/Model:................................
Recovery Company:..............................
Tel no:............................................... ....
************************************************** ******************
I know that I am saying nothing that hasnt all ready been said on this site but if this makes you just check that you have these details always with you or print the above out and stick it in your wallet then it wont have been said again for nothing.
Trust me when I say that although you may know the risks you take whilst on your bike and, never think that it will happen to you I think this clearly shows it could. Please take the time to make sure that when you ride you have this information on you.
Not preaching here just reminding you to do something that you may have forgotton about or simply not got around to doing as yet.

The account I used to run the football team collection we did last year's still open, if that's of any use... The justgiving site seems excellent though, seemed to work well for Nutty. Let me know if I can help out though.

I have just returned from a conference and discovered the terrible
news.
I went out on a number of rideouts with Dan. As far as I recall Dan
even mentioned attending my lectures at the University of Bath. He
was the nicest bloke.
RIP, Dan.
Have just got back to an email from Dan's family and they have asked me to pass on the following to you all..
“ Thank you for all the messages concerning Dan’s accident. We very much appreciate your support.
Enjoy your life.
Susan, Patrick and Tom Haxell”
