I'm not sure on forum etiquette for this kind of thing so please don't flame me if I've got it wrong.
A mutual friend of Haxsaw (Dan) and myself phoned me last night to say he'd been in a serious accident, on his SV, and died. I don't know any details, or even where and when. I've waited until this morning to post so I could confirm it with work (we work at the same place).
Although I didn't know him very well , we'd just chat about bikes, I thought I'd post this as I know he was fairly active on here and socialised with the South West Surfers a lot.
Thought you'd want to know.
RIP.
Holy Crap!!
He only posted this on Friday!!
Triple damn!
Always bad when someone comes off but I'm booked in for a pre-track day service on Monday & was hoping watch him rag his bike around Castle Combe on Wednesday.
Speedy recover, sir
RIP
Im truley stunned

OMG, such sad news.
Didn't know you, but RIP Haxsaw.
Ride safe Guys.
I didn't know him, but as stated this doesn't make much difference.
RIP, keep it safe peeps :(
Haxsaw was out with a few other South West members here including myself on a mini rideout out west.
The accident happened on the A396 between Minehead and Tiverton late on Saturday afternoon.
His next of kin have been notified.
He is a huge loss to the motorcycling community. My thoughts are with his freinds and family.

I've been told that the news was being held back until his close friends had all been informed. Apologies if I've caused anyone more upset at this sad time.
If it is thought appropriate to remove this post then please do so.

If I'm right, this was a rideout I was hoping to join.
I so stunned.
RIP fellow Dan
This is one of the hardest posts I have ever had to write..
The accident happened on Saturday with a few of us from the S&W contingency out.
Dan was one of the best riders I knew and one of the nicest blokes you could ever hope to know. We loved riding with him and we will miss him horrendously. Words really dont do this justice.
Thoughts are with his family and friends.

I didn't know him but any death is a real tragedy. We lost my husband's cousin (26) on Friday, hit head on by an Ambulance on a 999 call, he was riding his R1. I know how the family feel, they have my deepest condolences.
RIP Dan

Shocking....RIP in Dan. :(
I have a photo of Dan taken at the last WWW3, sat at a pub table with Anna, Mac99 and VB.
Would it be crass and insensitive to post it here? Or in "Photos". Or not at all? I dunno - advice please.

Jabba, there's a "Fallen Friends" section in the main site, a sort of memorial for unfortunate events like this. I guess you probably could send the pic to John, someone could write a little something about him, a eulogy perhaps, and put him there together with the others. :(

I've found a few photos of him that were taken on the Chesil run I did earlier this year.
Maybe we could collate them all and then one of the Mofo's who knew him best could type a few words if they wanted and then we can ask John to put it up on the Main site under Fallen Friends.

I think that might be in hand; others are looking after that side of things and there are way more pictures than mine.
The rideout in question was the last time I saw him.
Maybe its one for one of the Mofo's to sort out ?
I think that Anna or another of the Mofo has something in hand; like you, I don't want to tread on anyones toes or duplicate things.
I'm thinking that a thread in Photos might be best rather than clutter up this one. Yes?

I'm not sure. I dont have a problem posting them but I would wager its all still a bit raw at the moment. Maybe mention it Anna and see what she thinks.

Any photos you have would you PM them to me as we are putting together an Album for his family.
I will then select a few to PM them to John along with a bit from each of the S&W lot who knew him most.
Firstly my condolences, I was just reading one of Dans threads prior to this.
I'm happy to post a more permanent tribute to Dan, than can be accomlished here on the main site. That's the 'Fallen Friends' section is for.
I'm in no position to write anything, as I hardly knew Dan, but if any one here wants to send me a few lines, I'll gladly post them.

Terrible news.
I didn't know Dan, like many others who have posted.
However I still find this news upsetting, far more than I consider reasonable in the case of someone I did not know. I think this is something to do with knowing, sharing and accepting the risks
My condolences to both his friends and family, who have real reason to be upset.
Rest In Peace.
This news is truly a shock and very, very sad.
My thoughts and condolences too go out to his family, friends and those who were riding with him at the time.
Rest In Peace Dan.

I heard about this on my ferry home today. I'm still shocked. I've spoken to some of the folks who were there and sorry to those I havent yet and I know what you are going through.
All I want to say is that EVERY ride I took with Dan was an absolute pleasure. He was a truely great rider. He loved to ride. I dont remember him not enjoying riding whatever the circumstances, when the rest of us were moaning.
I count Dan as a real riding friend. Ok, like many friends I didn't REALLY know him well. But with your riding mates its different. You see the real highs and the real lows of something that you love doing (in Dan's case) or have a love hate relationship with (I think in many of our cases). I think you see the true person as a rider.
Dan was also a great wit. He was a real pleasure to talk with and I only wish I could remember the things he said to cut me down in an instant during all the banter.
It was strange hearing about this happening on a rideout. We loved our rideouts. If and when (I hope it doesnt sound hard to say 'when') we continue with them I hope Dan will still be riding with us.
I posted about this on advrider. I'll not link to the thread as there's a load of other crap there but I'll post here the messages soon.

may i be prudent but ask that a collection be made for a fallen member?
I did this on the SV1000 site and raised a fair amount of cash?
Family should know that there are some hearts around.
ride safely guys, as a man of the "cloth" I have had to pick too many of you up.
RIP Dan :(

I don't really think now is the right time to speculate over what might or might not have happened.
i have read an article on a website which gave brief details, i don't think it appropriate to post it on here however. it's a bad enough time as fizz says without further speculation and second guessing.

Hey I wasn't trying to cause offence, but it does seem like an important point. Whether its any of my business or not is another matter.
But tis still a sad loss, guy on my old aprilia forum died recently too.

Not that important when someone's recently died. Emotions are quite high at the moment and all that people should be thinking of at the moment is the sad loss of life.
