Was in portsmouth today doing some work for a client, and had the displeasure of visiting Gunwharf Quay on my bike. Having battled my way through some of the most horrble roadworks ive seen in a long time (that stretch of road that's down to half-width, with alternating traffic direction through it) I got into the carpark, to find hundreds of empty car spaces, and all (10?) of the bike spaces i could find were full. Thought bollox to this, and went in a car space. Put my kickstand down, got off the bike, and the back wheel slipped on some oil/diesel and bike fell on the floor. Cue one angry shao  Normally im far more careful, but i was hot and bothered from sitting in traffic and underground carparks are pretty dark anyway.
Now was i being blind, and are there more bike spaces in gunwharf carpark somewhere (i found 1 block of 10 on the right near the entrance, and spent 5 or 10 minutes circling the carpark), or is their a shortage of parking there? I'm thinking of writing to pompey council about it but not sure if im just feeling all ****ed off and righteous cos i dropped me bike...
Oh yeah, searched the gunwharf website for motorcycle, and no results. They do boast of their 1450-space underground carpark in a few places though

I've only ever seen one block, as you come in.. about 50 metres in on your right side. The rest are car parking spaces.

I'm not sure that the others are 'official' bike spaces, but some park theirs up against the parking attendants office. They also park around the downramp. Both of these are on the left opposite the section Fraser01 was talking about. Best thing is you don't have to pay £2.50/hr to park there though.

Don't think that they expect many bikes to visit, they want people to go in the car, spend a fortune parking and spend a fortune in the shops.

Luckily I don't have that problem as I only live across the water

Went back today, and from what i can see bikes dont tend to pay anyway, they just follow a car out through barriers
I guess tbh the council would just say "use a car space if your paying" anyway, lesson learnt i'll take more time in future. Regarding parking in what arent official spaces but look ideal for a bike to be left out of the way, that cost me £60 in tunbridge last week, so i dont park anywhere im not sure of any more :/

True that, If it wasnt for work i wouldnt be going there. Cheers for the sympathy wasnt much damage anyway, just a broken clutch lever, so it matches the brake now :?

Just park where you can in gunwarf... or park on the pavement just down the road a bit, toward the train and bus terminal. As long as you don't get in the way of the ped or cause a obstruction you should be fine for not getting fined. I never have... (touch wood, lol)
