Is there somewhere online I can send texts to mobiles? And replies?
Preferably for free. 8)

There is something wrong with my fone just now. I have a decent signal and can make calls but any txts i send are not going. I got a mate to send me one and 12hrs later I still don't have it.

Not for free, but Skype has a SMS system built in with text at about 8p each i think.

If you're with orange or o2 they do a text service via their website

they do shut it down when it gets busy, but once you've had a reply you get past the queues.

Unfortunately, I'm on Vodafone.

I had this same problem last week mate, i thought it was my phone so sent it off for repair, they gave me a loan phone but had the same issue (i couldnt make or recive calls either) they later diagnosed it as a faulty sim card, i rang them on friday and recived the new sim on saturday. Its all working fine now, i still rekon it was the network at fault though.

Thanks Carsick. Did the trick nicely. :D

Marshall, I think it's my fone/sim. My mate is on voda too and it sent from his mobi ok. We were in the same room!

He's an Orange engineer, and says it's possible that data transmissions can go down but calls remain ok. That might have been the issue if his didn't send either. However I was travelling around a fair bit yesterday and it's unusual for several neighbouring masts to go down at the same time.

Will call Voda in a while, see what they say.
