Yippee, they are delivering my new car on Tuesday. Vectra SRI 150.

Can anyone tell me what the feck PS is a measure of?. Is it more or less that of a good old fashioned brake horse. At least you can't metrificate a horse. They are the same here as in froggy land or is a PS a weak froggy horse. Well whatever it is I get 150 of them with 320 whatever (NM?) of torque.

Already told the lad that the insurance won't let him near it. Lie of course it is insured for any driver, but I being blamed for spoling his fun.

1 PS = 75 kp·m/s = 0.73549875 kW = 0.9863201652997627 hp (SAE)

Roughly speaking of course!

What he means is that a PS is a "midges" shy of a hp

To Convert Bhp to PS (hp DIN) Multiply BHP By 1.0139

To Convert PS (hp DIN) to Bhp Multiply PS By 0.9863

just take the figure as bhp its easyer because none are accurate anyhow

just measure your willy, add a zero and take the figure as bhp its easyer because none are accurate anyhow

Y'see, we all know what fast cars really mean. :P

A PS is a Kraut horsey, not a Froggy one.

PS = PferdeStarke.

BHP is usually measured at teh whell, PS is the power delivered at the propshaft - Not quite such a realisitc figure as it ignores the transmissions losses, but it sounds more impressive!

Just read the Subject matter and thought Mr TW was having a supply and demand problem with the ol, wacky backy!

VXR has 240PS, but its 237bhp.

Your will have the 2.0 16v Ecotec, 136bhp engine, but 300NM of torque????? Thats not right?

Unless you have the latest model Vectra, in which case it'll be a 1.9 CDTi unti, 150bhp, 6 speed box. Superb engine, u'll love it!!!!!!!!!!!! Nearly bought one over the VXR, till we saw the VXR

Great engine.

I was expecting the dealer's mesasge to be, "I'm all out of horse" or something.

no I have got the 1.9CDTI 150 6 speed, according to the Vauxhall site 320 NM at 2000 RPM and 150 PS @4000. I would have gone for the VXR but could not afford the fuel

I'm not quite convinced about this theory. Manufacturers always quote at the flywheel, whether it's PS or BHP. The only time you get a wheels figure is if you take it to a rolling road or the like.

LOADS of torque.

Have you seen the limited run of 100 Astra 888 Diesels? Well, thats the same enigne. For around £300-£500 you can have the car re-mapped to around 200bhp, still retain all fuel economy, and get a massive increase in torque as well...

Details if you want them 8)

I'm considering the same Vectra SRI for my next car (due in November) but also will test drive the Astra SRI with the same engine. I'm thinking the Astra's got to be quicker but it seems the spec on the Vectra is higher. Astra is a shade cheaper on tax as well.

Decisions, decisions.

....Or I could just take a Toyota Yaris and save myself about £5k a year on tax / car allowance! But that would be no fun would it!..

Whilst is sounds great to get a further 33% improvement in performance simply by mapping changes. I would have to question the wisdom of doing so on the standard brakes/suspension etc.

Also as it is a company vehicle, do I want to spend 3-500 of my own money that I would never recover, what would be the attitude of the companies insureres the lease company etc should this mod be discovered. TBH lets wait until I get my hands on it tomorrow and then I can see if it needs refining

Tim,

I've got one as a company car and i think it's a great car.

Handles well, goes well for it size and is comfy to drive. I've no complaints about mine.

We were going to buy the SRi (CDti) 150 with styling pack, 18"s etc before the VXR due to the fuel savings.

Then we saw them parked up next to each other, dribble... No contest.

Timwilky, brakes are good enough on the 150 model. Suspension is also adiquate on them. (but both can be upgraded, from Vauxhall, under warrenty. 4 pots are £1500  )

Map is only detectable if you plug a computer into it and check all the mapping settings (i.e you'd need to know the standard map inside out). But you'd notice it big time just by stepping out the loud pedal

It can also be re-mapped to standard for basically nowt as some companies realise peopel want to sell them on as a standard car again.

Just realised anyway, its a lease car, so tbh, i wouldn't bother touching it either, thought it was yours :)
