You know, from pictures I've seen of it I'm not sure, but that's definitely the best one yet. I'm looking forward to seeing it in the flesh.

(And Lyn, people have truly been banned for less  )

Just installed one of these TT Adventure Racks, old boy. Gives me a 600mile range..

That reminds me

I rode home with one of these today
http://www.nozzer.demon.co.uk/picture%20folder/blue%20k1.jpg
Spent almost ten miles trying to figure out what it was just from the backend. Finally got a view when we went our separate ways.

When that first came out, that was just sooooo avant-garde, now it just looks stupid  .

I dont :P

the white rabbit

I do :P

Its very quick. But I felt not very exciting. But I'd need to have another try before made up my mind. Its superb looking tho, IMO.

jonboy
01-08-06, 08:44 PM
Yes I rather like that too. Perhaps the only IL4 that would tempt me away from a twin.

.

the white rabbit
01-08-06, 08:47 PM
It pulls form low down like a twin. Perhaps by virtue of juts so much hp? Not the quickest top end wise but who needs that. Low down and mid's like a rocket.
Then again Ive never ridden a SS so cant compare.

jonboy
01-08-06, 09:08 PM
The torque curve is quite unbelievably flat and and gives almost 75 lb ft from only 3k revs (quite unlike a four), which is why it'd pull hard from so low down — right, where's that ten grand I had under the matress? quick, before the taxman cometh  .

Next year? definitely not (but should see an SV1000). 2008? well that's my goal (so it'll be either the K1200R or the KTM Super Duke — somehow  ).

.

the white rabbit
01-08-06, 09:11 PM
How have they made it like that?

Razor
01-08-06, 09:28 PM
Probably a combination of things, long ish stroke, well metered fuel injection and exhaust valve. I'm just guessing tho. I worry that if I visit a bemmer website I'll never be able to use an indicator again...

jonboy
01-08-06, 09:34 PM
A mixture of a large capacity engine (the 1200cc) and cleverly mapped fuel injection. I also suspect the motor's a little detuned to push up the torque curve, after all it's ahardly lacking in BHP.

There's no reason why an IL4 can't be setup to do this. The reason they don't is that the fashion in sporty bikes is for peaky engines with fast top ends.

I do like the first picture, but it's not my favourite out of the current crop of BMWs.

This one is winning for me
http://cannon-bmw.co.uk/cannon/New_Bikes/K1200S/2004%20BMW%20K1200%20S%20RIDING.jpg
I know it's pretty similar.

Jabba

That's the best pic of the R1200R that I've seen. Looks a bit naff from the front, but might be better in real life. Hope that they've left the full-power engine in?

I do like that K1200R though......... :D

As for a top box, this is the best (and worst!) one in use on AR06. dunno what you lot are complaining about. It improved the SV that it was on no end

When you said, "rode home with one of these today" I thought for a second you meant you had bought one and rode it home!

http://upload4.postimage.org/878637/R1200S.jpg (http://upload4.postimage.org/878637/photo_hosting.html)

The new R1200S "Sports" machine - In real terms it's much more of a sports tourer. Very comfy to sit on, and I fancy getting a test ride just for the sake of it.

BMW are now starting to make some very desirable kit, actually addressing their many previous shortcomings, and attempting to enter markets that they previously ignored.
