This might sound like a stupid question but how do Bail Bonds work.

This stems from watching a few episodes of Dog the Bounty hunter on Bravo Channel. As far I understand it;

A person who is arrested is bailed by a bail company pending trial. This amount vary's due to the crime or person. If they do not attend court then the bail money or bonds is lost to the court. Therefore most Bail bond companies employ a Bounty Hunter to arrest the person and gain back the money.

If I'm correct how does the bail bond company make any money to stay in business.

Sorry for the random question, its been bugging me for a while.

As for Dog ther Bounty Hunter.............. Dude take a long look in the mirror. :shock:

Hey don't dis the Dog man, he rocks! You gotta love the way he is so hard, yet I have seen him cry in at least 3 episodes haha.

Good question though...

Fascinating stuff.

Apparently the bond company charges about 10% of the required bond as a fee.
