Not as some might think, this is not some kind of personal confession!
Following the introduction of a high profile "License for Points" system here in Spain. The first month using the system has seen deaths on the road here reduced to below 300 for the first time ever for the month of July!
There were 63 less fatalaties than the same month last year. The total was actually 279 with 75 of these coming in the last 7 days. This could coincide with the fact that during that week the main holiday period for Spaniards finally began.
The province that I live in was a close second for most deaths with 14 fatalaties being recorded.
The main causes stated for fatal crashes were excessive speed and distraction of the driver.
Does this lowering of figures suggest the system is fully justified? :?
