Sat 19th July.

Assuming its not raining or otherwise rubbish I shall be doing this. Provisional time 2pm Roo Bar (location as below my avatar). Its a informal (maybe some junction marking etc if lucky but thats it ) slow scenic bimble...

http://upload4.postimage.org/883870/r_chd_2.jpg (http://upload4.postimage.org/883870/photo_hosting.html)

Edited route to do loop on Mendips: Burrington, then Charterhouse, Shipham, round to Cheddar, then UP gorge by popular request, back down via Burrington..

This ties in with this:

Cool, I was looking at doing this myself a few years back.

As for the ride on Saturday I shall be down for it. Will also be having a little wonder round the bike show before (weather depending) so if anyone spots a strange looking bloke wondering round, don't approch him... come and speak to me!

Hi gang,
haven't posted til now as I needed to see if my wife would be mobile enough to cope on her own..............well, just had the green light :D so if I turn up at this "Roo bar" for 1400 tomorrow, is it still the start point?
(Is there a real name for this bar so I can pinpoint it on my GPS :) ) as Whiteladies is a damn long road

SquirrelH will you already be in Bristol or are you travelling down from Swinders?

mac99
18-08-06, 08:16 PM
Its real name is The Roo Bar. Its Australian themed. Well, they sell Fosters anyway.
Its next to Clifton Down Train station, or there are directions at the start of the Bristol MoFos Thursday nights stickie thread.

Don't know whether this is still the plan or not. Bristol Bike show is on that day, so some people may be around earlier.

squirrel_hunter
18-08-06, 08:16 PM
Good news on the green light.

The Roo is still the start point (as far as I know 8-[ ) sure someone else will confirm. Yep that is the the real name of it, its about halfway up (or down) aim for the train station.

I'm in Sunny Swindon tonight, not sure when I'm heading down was thinking of going down a little before to have a wonder round the bike show.

Baldyman
18-08-06, 08:21 PM
There's me googling Rhubarb, Kangaroo.......

Yeah,
SH, I'de like to go down early, but not fair on my wife, so I'll see you at the Roo bar (says it like he's a local already  ) for the rideout?

anna

might be an idea to post in the morning and find out what people are doing..

I know mac99 is currently doing a rain dance as he has just brought new waterproofs so if it is raining blame him

mac99
18-08-06, 10:09 PM
Look, I've told you, my waterproofs prevent rain.

If stretchie ever gets his bike fixed however, then I'm going to be building an Ark.

the white rabbit
19-08-06, 06:42 AM
OK, look...

Its only a short ride, so:
1. I'm going even if it rains as its not likely to be persistent;
2. Conversly as the plan is for a short scenic bimble to show our visitors the sights its not worth travelling a long way in the rain for (eg. for VB)...

So sort that puzzle out

Yes, Roo BAr at 2pm. location as on my profile. I'm in Bristol from earlier so meet me for lunch if you like (somewhere else as Roo is rubbish). 07834 453799 , I'll be at BMW until about 10.30 then at Fowlers then who knows.. Failing that I'll be at Roo Bar from 1.30pm.

If its crazy wet then go off to the bike show or something, like a pub.

Either way theres something to do. And to decide whether to bring a bike or not? Well, we cant decide that for you  But sunday looks better.

mac99
19-08-06, 06:06 PM
Well, back OK.
Day went well, Rain held off, did some good roads, and Squirrel stuck his face in a bush.
Now it's off down town to watch our cockney guests get drunk on 2 pints.

:D

Baldyman
19-08-06, 06:31 PM
That's the bald pate and the Blackbird back in one piece. :)
Thanks for the guided tour gang =D>
What a day, there's Squirrel looking for nuts in the wood and VB finding his on the humpty back road

Cheers gang, until next time (hopefully  )

the white rabbit
19-08-06, 06:34 PM
I hope it was enjoyable. I tend to ride a mixed batch of roads and having never ridden a sports 600 can only guess how uncomfortable they may be

At least it was funny!

Sorry if it was a little 'back laney', but it kept us out the traffic which was bad everytime we hit a major road. And we had to entertain Bill

I know Squirrel's keen on the outdoors but surely that bush didnt need inspecting THAT close up....

I hearby proclaim your new user name is

http://newsimg.bbc.co.uk/media/images/40010000/jpg/_40010454_bellamy1_bbc_203.jpg

And AT LAST we all had a go on one ot the strangest straight roads you'll probably come across.

squirrel_hunter
20-08-06, 11:44 AM

Well what more can I say about my little off road experience...

On a more serious note I would however like to take this moment to publicly apologise to everyone for my little off. It was a novice mistake and was all my own fault. Bike and rider are fine.

Now to lighten the tone...

:geek:

Some great roads were on the route, and I like all were pleased with the gravel that had been shipped in just for our weekend. The bumpy road was, erm, bumpy and the Ice Cream was cool and creamy. Much fun!

Anyway we picked best day for it. Just been up to folks near Hereford, very dull and somewhat cold. Yesterday was positively balmy by comparison.

I liked it so much that I did a reprise/alternate version of this route myself today.
Out of Bristol through Bishopsworth and Dundry. Chew Stoke, Lake, Rickford, Burrington Coombe, then to Priddy. Then down a very silly track that I once drove up years ago and had forgotten exactly what it was like. Be nice for the trailly boys though - It's the road from Priddy to Wookey Hole.
Stopped in the Bike shop in Wells, he's open 7 days and is friendly and happy to chat, and has a pie wagon outside. Along to Cheddar and up the gorge through massively heavy traffic, and back to Bristol. And my magic jacket kept the rain away again.

All this after having to singlehandedly prove to the Guildford mob that not all Bristolians are teetotal.

Stopped in the Bike shop in Wells

I had an idea theres a bike shop in Wells owned by the guy who owns Bath Rd BMW? Is it that one?

There's lots of 'amusing' tracks in the mendips. We should do an unplanned mendip explorer again soon...

Shouldn't think so. This is Somerset Superbikes, they opened in Wells about a year ago, and were just down the road in Easton before that. The bloke running it is called Jason, and he seemed to be the owner rather than just the manager. It's on the little industrial estate opposite the Thales site.

There's lots of 'amusing' tracks in the mendips. We should do an unplanned mendip explorer again soon...
Definitely. However all my OS maps of the area were stolen by the Guildford Four.
