No I'm not after your tips for what stock to buy, just wondering if anybody does this online?

Been interested in do this for a while now and hope to start soon so I've started looking around. My only problem is the cost!

Some sites charge £10-15 per trade, which is fine if its infrequent and for large sums but I want to deal small and often so this is a bit of a downer for me.

try the halifax share dealing website.. I use them and they are pretty good if you are just starting out lots of useful information on their site even if you just want to browse and find out further info.

Somethings never change. Stocks and shares is a gamble no matter how much research you do or advice you take. Therefore the sum you look to have a punt with should be no more than you can actually afford to lose in a worse case scenario. Stick with that thinking and never try to recover your losses by throwing more in, and you should be ok.

Just remember Polly Peck!

good advice there from PH squirrell if you are balking at the cost of the admin fees charged probably not a gambling game for you

PH is right, thats why I only want to start small, and thats why the fees are the big issue for me.

IIRC the Thatcher era wanted more people to invest and thus 'removed the barriers' for small investers. From what I have seen so far the barriers are still up.

I'm sure someone will correct me but the Americans do it very cheaply, wonder if I can open an American account?

You'll probably spend a lot of time fulfilling their ID & money laundering checks, and then have to have a US dollar account so you'll be subject to exchange rate fluctuations as well as stock market fluctuations.

I would suggest you stick with a UK account, I'm sure there is something out there for you (I have one with one of the high street banks, but as I'm staff I get staff discounts).
