I'm armed with my mighty repertoire of 20 or so songs for Reading, along with my tiny Crafter guitar, but there's a problem- they're all songs I like, and nobody likes songs I like but me :) I think 10 of them are Carter USM
So, using preferrably only roots, no barres (can't do barre chords worth a damn on acoustic, the only exception I make is F#m), what songs can I knock out in a day that other people will ever have heard of apart from me, my brother, my mate Graham, and his mate Robert?
This isn't false modesty, I'm extremely rubbish...

"house of the rising sun" and "nights in white satin"... all I ever learned to play, so must be easy.
Also going to Reading me :-)
PS: SoulKiss... that fierce and scary man in your avatar... his sword is missing a blade, or is it just me?

That would be because his sword is actually a crossbow, and the scary man is actually me in my OTHER leathers, which will be getting an airing over the weekend, because its "that time of year again"

Wonderwall is surprisingly easy
That's because Oasis "songs" are not actually music, just shouting to a tune
KIDDING!
I'll get me coat

Oops... well my weapon recognition skills only really begin with guns.
Are you in a re-enactment society, or does "that time of the year" refer to something else ;-)
Bloody impressive leathers though ...

Not quite re-enactment - LARP - Live Action Roleplaying.
Kinda like Dungeons & Dragons etc, except instead of sitting round the dining-room table rolling dice, you dress up, act stuff out, get terribly drunk and hit people with swords/axes whatever :) all good fun.
Time of year refers to the August Bank holiday which traditionally is the biggest events of the year - the biggest of which is The Gathering, which is where I will be.
The leathers were bought, but next year I plan to have finally gotten round to making some to my own design, was all ready to get started this year when I had the brainwave (after seeing the sale items on the Infinity website) of building it with normal bike armour in it too.
So next year, instead of getting the train, I may be able to strap the camping gear to the bike and ride up in my armour.

Thanks Spidey, but I have my bike leathers sorted out for the moment, and not many people work in 3mm leather (which is what the pictures are of), however I do :)
You wouldn't happen to have the URL for the ebay shop tho anyways :)

when I used to play bass (many years ago . . .) my local guitar shop had a sign promising a £10 fine to anyone trying out a new axe and playing 'House of the Rising Sun' or 'Peaches'

Good Riddance I have down... I'm not quite that useless :) Wonderwall's a good call, crowd pleaser that. My brother knows Rising Sun, I'll let him handle that part. Dont; actually know Hey Joe, I'll have a pop at Hotel California though. Cheers folks!
Terence, if you hear lots of Carter songs being played really badly, and sung by a large man with an awful comedy London accept, that'll be us- come and say hello :)

Bodycount (full name Bodymotha****ingcount featuring Ice Motha****ing T) covered that on friday :) I just barely recognised it.
The Carter USM and Wildhearts tracks went down pretty well, but in the end I just kept on giving it to other people to play for us

A mate of mine, who was a proper guitarist, with grooves worn out of his fingers and everything, had an Oasis medley.
He would play 4 chords. He'd then name each chord.
Then he'd start playing more or less the entire Oasis catalogue, using nothing but those 4 chords. Just song to song to song, same chords.
Good party trick anyway,

When i started out playing guitar many moons ago (ok, four years ago) i learnt alot of red hot chilli peppers. Thats easy stuff to learn and along the way you'll gather some good techniques that every half decent gutiarist should be aware of.
I also recomend Nothing Else Matters by metallica - just the chords, you dont have to do the fiddly fingerpicking stuff.
Good luck!
Matt
