Just back from taking the hire GN125 back, and only just realied I am going to have to get the train and bus home tonight - :(

In 24 hours I should be throwing my leg over the seat of a CBR500, having just shown my Driving Tester my licence, CBT and Theory Test Certs and having told him to to check the oil/my lights/whatever.

Getting a bit nervous......

Still the thought that in 28 hours I should be on the back of my nice shiny Red K6S on my way towards Central London is enough to make me determined to get through it this time.

Renewal for me - though only part-time working with the event staff (Security). Friends trade at the LT though - As If By Magic, costume, makeup and the like.

Did Renewal for its 1st couple of years - when I 1st started going to the Gathering in 96 I fell in with the Tarantulas command group - then politics forced us out and we split to renewal.

Then things kinda went pear shaped for the group, and I moved to London and fell in with a new bunch of LARPers, who went to the Gathering so I went back, not because it was a better event, but because thats where my mates went.

Cool thing is the politics stuff all died down and I am once again going with the now ex-Tarantulas command group and it a load of fun

Anyways that will have bored everyone else so will leave it there :)

More a field than a wood (only a little of the event takes place in the woods)

And the "sticks" are fibreglass (or carbon fibre), covered in foam, then painted with latex (to protect the foam) - so they hurt less than sticks !!!!

And dont forget the drinking and chasing of women !!!! (tho the wife is coming this year so there will be less of one of those for me :P )

Link to the pic collection my Avatar came from (take a couple of years ago) - warning lots of big files on a single page (and if you click on them, the full sized pics are massive) -- here Gathering Pics 2004 (http://www.chaoscrypt.com/karathan/)

Nice Teeth in those pics!! :D  The closest I've ever been to anything like that was years ago, me and my ex used to play the Dungeons and Dragons board game with friends of ours, we'd get together every week. Used to really enjoy it. Sounds like lots of fun that you have! :D

Good luck for the test!! Be positive.... but not overly and you'll be fine!!

Well make that T-Minus 21 Days and Counting

Failed it on my Emergency Stop - ended up having to slowly lower the bike to the ground when after having come to a stop I lost my balance and well you get the idea.

Apart from that a ride with only 4 minors, 3 for my left turns - not as tight as he would have liked and starting from closer to the middle of the road but not a fail reason - oh and one mark for hesitation.

So while gutted (my SV will sit at the dealers until Sat 2nd when a mate of mine will ride it back to my garage) reasonably positive as I know I can pass this damned thing next time.

Good thing is that the instructor that took me out has a son that just passed his test and has a CG125 (kick-start only) going for about the same money as 2 weeks hire of the GN125 would have cost - so I SHOULD be back on the road next week.

Other good thing is I live in a gated community, which makes the road into it a provate road - so I will get to have a shot on my SV - an if I can nail low-speed stuff on it, I may see if I can get the insurance sorted out so that I can take my test on the SV - could be cheaper than renting :)

So no SV for me yet, but soon.

sorry to hear it! i failed twice too, before passing on the 3rd. but, i wouldn't try and take your test on your sv - i feel the u turns are a lot harder on it, cos of the fairings. though you might feel different after trying the sv out! don't drop it

Erm that was my second time :)

But it was 3rd time lucky for the car - looks like going that way for the bike too :)

Yeah, that is my big concern (u-turns) but I will have a couple of weeks of evenings to nail them - only not too sure about if it would be good for a new engine - plus I would be testing on pretty much new, unused tyres - even based on doing 40 mile on the way to Hendon from Vauxhall (about what we did on the way to Greenford so we could get used to the CBF's again) - might not be too clever to Emergency stop on them....

Bad luck, thats a real ****er. About the above I know some companies used to allow that, as long as you were riding on L-plates with an instructor or examiner. I was thinking of doing it when I did my test, but the logistics of actually getting the bike to the test seemed more complicated. The AA certainly did.

Also I think some of the training bikes do some things better than the SV, for example I always found the U-turn harder on the SV (an S) than whatever it was I learned on. So worth a think.

Oh and do take care on the private roads thing, just in case you crash into someone/the crash into you. Not sure where you stand but worth a check. Sorry...sound a pedant there, a real one will be along in no time

Anyway good luck. But do tell us more about this 'gated community'

Nothing special - just standard London Housing built in the last few years

You build a new street, with one way in, one way out and add to the value of the houses by sticking a security gate which stops undesireables walking in and nicking your telly/bike/whatever

Doesnt work tho - they just wait till someone drives a car in and then walk in behind it while the gates are still open

But what it does give you is a private road from where the gate is

Bike test is not a true test of bike ability. It took this riding god no fewer than four goes to pass.

Still there are some on here who take a different view :-#
