View Full Version : Telly Aerial
Mrs Tricky has just purchased a new telly with built in freeview and has decided that the existing aerial (5.99 Wilkos suspended with string in the loft) is not up to the job.
So I purchased a new one off of an internet site that Jelster reccomended in another thread a while back, I thought I would get a good one so spent about £35.
I didn't check the dimensions of the new aerial and was a little suprised when it arrived, do you think its big enough ?

Ah yes "the teapot" the classic pose.
The Spitfire picture is actually a needlepoint which was a thankyou gift for being an usher at a friends wedding, and was made by the bride.
The aircraft depicted is a Mk9, serial MJ730 and wears the registration GN-F, MJ730 only carried this registration for a short time in November 1988 after it had been restored. (It carried GN-Y when with 249 sqn)
MJ730 is most widely known for carrying the registration GZ-?
This came about as it was common for the squadron CO to have his initials or other personalised registration on his plane marking it as his own personal mount.
The GZ-? came about when the ground crew asked a new CO (Sqn. Ldr. George Silvester) what identifier did he want applied to his Spit. He replied "oh I don't know" or similar so they painted a question mark on the side as a joke. He liked it and told them to leave it on. Wearing a ? on your plane became a bit of a tradirion with 32 sqn CO's after that.
You have to earn the geek shirt !
Best get planning permission if that's going on the roof.

Getting up the ladder and bolting this bugger to the bracket was not fun at all, next time I'm paying someone else to do it !

is it scanning all channels now?
Yep, I'm getting 80-90% signal strength and 95-100% signal quality on pretty much all the channels.
I reckon I could get the strenght up a wee bit more if I fine tuned the alignment, but I've had enough ladder related excitement for one month.
:D
so how long do you think that thing will stay up in a storm ???

Is that a Televes MX DAT45?
I need something that will get the freeview properly...
Anna - Probably not long, it does wobble a bit in the wind. It was really windy the other night, I lay awake in bed waiting for the crash ! Its still up there though.
I think if it does fall off it will shear the pole off. :D
Tigersaw - Err yes it is, superb aerial recognition skills there ! :D

Already covered by the buildings insurance, we've got very good liability cover too.
If I advise my neighbours not to go out on their patio when its windy as well, I should have all bases covered
well I think it is safe to say you got your money's worth out of that!!
