I was told it was because; well groomed, athletic build, short hair, boyish face.

I used to get that a lot, when I was working with the public in big cities. Not so much now, which might be because I am a bit of a loner, and I stay away from people generally.

It's to do with being clean and boyish looking. Some girls used to say that they liked me because I was effeminate looking. I wasnt crazy good looking, and sparklingly chatty.

TBH I took it as a compliment, I was almost never made feel uncomfortable, even when it was older guys, I would just smile and tell them that it wasnt really my scene, and they would be fine about it.

Yup I get that too - there is a guy here who likes me, thankfully he asked a colleague first before asking me and they told him I was straight - he always smiles and says hello, which I always return - doesnt bother me to be honest...
