After a nice lan ding under a car I am forced to replace the hole front end...
I have been convinced to do the fix by myself, but I am finding that the ebay parts chase is going to be good fun and is going to take a lot of time to put all the pieces together.
so.... I wanted to confirm what I need...
Obvious stuff:
-Speedo (almost have one from ebay for £80, fingers crossed)
-Forks
-Wheel
-Brake discs
-Calipers
-Yokes (do I need to change them or the originals will be ok?)
- Frame to hold speedo, lights and indicators (I will leave it as street figher for now, any suggestions on where can I get this from?)
Picked up from other threads..
- Clip ons (wtf are they? no idea)
- ????
Do the parts from a GSX-R 600-750 SRAD or K1 fit without modifications? I would like to do the swap with the minimal fuss possible...
Arg... this is going to take months!!! months without a bike... ](*,)
Thanks!!
Edit: does GSX-R 1000 stuff fit as well?
GSXR1000 stuff, unless its from a K5+ (i think) is heavier than the GSXR 600/750 stuff which is considered better overall. Generaly its forks from bikes K2+.
You will need new yokes as the forks are larger and clipons(handlebars) as well, if you cant find any you can allways buy some race ones or just put some renthals bars on.
As i said, if money is all in place then it can be done in a matter of a couple of weeks and not very expensive.

Where did you get the heavier bit from :? Nevr heard that and even if ti was I'm not so sure it would be enough to be noticed. Agree with the GSXR600/750 be generally accepted to be better as standard
Quick and simple. So you are left with the
GSXR600 K4 on(Radial calipers)
GSXR750 K1-K3(non-Radial calipers) or
GSXR750 K4 on(Radial calipers)
Do you want a radial or non-radial front end. Which ever you get it's a case of a complete fronten. The only thing you can use from the SV are the switch gears, clutch and brake levers/perches.
You don't want the GSXR750 SRAD for the pointy.
Cheers

GSXR1000 stuff is Kabaya forks and generaly they are not as good as the showa forks, they are also a little heavier aparently (have found info contradicting that, but i have seen it mentioned that its heavier), the new K5 or K6 (not sure) Kabaya pulled through and created some forks that are acualy very good. This is all aparently what i have read though variaous forums.
Give this guy an email about your speedo res0udpw@verizon.net Thats where I got mine from for my USD conversion but he will need to know what parts you are using ie. Wheel, Forks, Callipers
It cost me $77 thats about £45!!!

I did agree that the Showas are generally considered to be better. I only qualified it with 'as standard' since they would both works very well once worked on. So yes we are in agreement.
Still not convinced by the weight bit. Has anyone actually weighed the forks and able to give concrete fugures. Not a big deal but people(not talking about you) spout stuff on the net as fact even when they are not sure.
Just for the hell of it ,I'm going weigh a GSXR1000K4 forks and GSXR750 K4 forks and post the results
Cheers
Ben
Clipons are your bars. On the naked version they are a complete unit with the top yoke, while the faired ones literally clip on.
If you go Radial, I have a "spare" set of Tokico radial calipers from a K4/5 Gixxer 600/750.

Due to selling my SV to buy my Aprilia Tuono my Showa GSXR front end will be up for sale complete with everything you need to bolt it straight on and its in A1 nick.
Intrested PM for a price, its a very worth whilw thing to do to the SV.

Here's what I PM'ed to someone else on this forum:
The following gsx-r forks are a straight bolt-on without the need to modify steering stops or steering lock/ignition barrel:
gsxr-r 600:
2004-2005 has radial brakes
gsx-r 750
2000-2003 has normal brakes
2004-2005 has radial brakes
gsx-r 1000
2001-2002 has normal brakes
2003-2004 has radial brakes
you will need a front wheel from any of the above, but gsx-r 600 2001-2003 and any year SV1000 is identical and also fits.
triples (yokes) from any model will accept forks from any model, but both upper and lower triples must be from the same model and year, due to variance on offset.
forks for normal brakes require 320 mm brake rotors, radial brakes are made for 300 mm rotors but can be spaced out to accept 310 or 320 mm rotors.
clip-ons from any of the above models, get a matching pair, since some models differ from others.
clip-ons from normal brake forks use a locator screw, for the radials they use a locator tab. it's easily modified to fit any model, but nice to know.
Assuming you have a SV650, you need to relocate your speedosensor to either the counter shaft or the rear wheel.
I chose the counter shaft way, which requires a gsx-r speedosensor and speedorotor.
also, a larger displacement master cylinder for the brakes are recommended to really take advantage of the brakes.
any gsx-r master cylinder will fit. I chose the radial version from the gsx-r 600-750 2004-2005
If you rate performance higher than looks, then the preferred parts are gsx-r 750 forks any year and 750 triples 2004-2005.
