View Full Version : I've just bought a new v-twin motorcycle.
After touring Ireland two up with a rather lot of luggage I decided to get something a little more comfortable for Mrs Ape to sit on.
It's going to be my winter hack whilst the SV goes in for a make over.

So I go out for a couple of days and when I get back we have Daimo posting bike pics, and a BigApe's bike with both wheels on the floor. This forum has gone crazy. :?

Nice top box.
Someone should phone for paramedics to go round to Jonboys place. He's probably going to have a heart attack when he sees this.
scuse my ignorance but what is it - yes I know it's a Honda...

H*nda Deauville 650 v-twin with a shaft drive otherwise known as a dullville not an excitng bike but gets you from a-b easily and it's comfy
There's an article on the Dullsville in this months TWO.
They put a heart rate on Jon Urry and see if the bike can get his pulse raceing.
Quite an amusing article, one of the the things they did was Jim Whitham riding round Donnington on it with Urry on the back (grinding the footpegs off).
The conclusion was, that it was a very dependable and capable comuter/tourer, just not that exiting (no suprises there then)
THeres a chap round the corner from me has a red one, I think they look quite good in a sensible sort of a way, a bit like a mini Pan.

I uesd to have one of them as a courier hack. Excellent for round own and comfy for distance. It was very DULL though and a bit gutless.
I can't help thinking that BA's winding us up and some folks have been well and truely suckered
Oh, and they do wheelie. After a fashion.

With the right amount of ballast in the top box I am sure Ape will open a few eyes with wheelie antics! :)

so kinda like a hopsital bed then...
doesnt bode well does it?
No wind up, I picked it up this afternoon. I am sure that it will serve the purpose that it was bought for.
The best thing is, I managed to get both bikes insured fully comp for less than £200. Bargain.
I am a bit worried though, it felt too good riding it. I think I might be getting old. The SV can now have a nice lazy winter in the garage. With a bit of TLC it should come out the other side of winter with a new lease of life and looking considerably better than it does now. Funds dependant of course.

You think? :? At £200 fully comp, if I had to take a stab in the dark I'd say, yeah you must be really old  .
Looking good  :) .
So how miles on it and how much did you pay if you don't mind me asking(PM if prefered). I'm thinking of getting one :? but not made my mind up yet.

Jester , can you remember how many miles to a gallon on average you were getting?
Cheers

All too soon I shall be 40  But the cheap insurance more than makes up for that.
It has 82000 miles on the clock but the engine in it has only done 22000. I payed a whopping £500 for it. It's a quite a bit tatty and the paint job is not the best in the world but for that price I'm not complaining.
It's also got a brand new rear tyre and a new exhaust. The panniers don't lock at the moment, but I'm sure I can sort that out. The only downer is the very clonky gear box. But it's a case of "they all do that" so I'm not bothered. :D
At £500 not many people would say no, nicest winter hack I've seen in sometime.

£500? Right up my street. I've seen one in Sh**ty white with 20K at a dealer near me and is priced at 2.4K. I'll get a fair bit off it but something like yours would have been perfect. We'll see.
Cheers

It was a long trip around Ireland. This is the last pic I took of Ape there

Get Northwind to put a set of pointy cams and a K&N on it with an Akrapovic and a dynojet kit.Bore it out to 800 cc,lose all that bodywork to give it the streetfighter look and put it on a diet.Drop the yokes and put a Gixer shock in and that should sort it out.Call it a Goville.

I can't believe no one has pointed this out; the only plausible reason BigApe has bought a bike with built-in luggage is that he can stuff it with weights to make it continuously, "save on front tyre wear".
I have it on VERY good authority that BigApe will not be wheelieing again. EVER
