Here is a document a friend pointed out to me detailing a dyno-test of different fuels, optimax, ultimate, tesco 95, and tesco 99.

It's car-specific really, but the results are quite interesting.

That is interesting and not altogether unexpected, but will it work on a bike. The ECU's are not as sophisticated as on cars and may not be able to compensate or modify ignition timing etc. Anyone?

But the engines are relatively high compression when compared to a car, so should happily exploit some of the benefits.

The ECUs on the latest BMWs (K1200R, K1200S) Are able to use a huge number of sensors to make the most of high octane fuel so might see a similar step up.

I think "Bike!" mag ran a bunch of R1s, Blades etc on Optimax and 95RON at BSD performance when the fuel came out a few years back and it made no difference at all, as the bikes were not able to advance the ignition to make use of it.

But then again, the engine in SVs is designed to run with worse fuel than in the UK the the engine would probably not take advantage of the fuel. I think you need to advance the ignition to take exploit the potential of the higher octane fuel.

My seat of the pants dyno can tell the difference (maybe i just have a sensitive ass)

I can't recommend Germany's 100ron V-Power enough, though this is not to be confused with Shell's UK distributed V-Power which is only 99ron. :?

Are you sure its not because your wallet is now much lighter?

What i mean't was "I can't recommend it enough"

Maybe :-k

but i reckon its worth the few extra pence in the bike, makes a difference i'm convinced + extra economy too.

Yes you do, raise the compression or advance the ignition timing are the only ways you will benefit from extra octane.

These fancy cars can advance the timing themselves depending on ‘knock’ sensors etc, bikes are too primitive to take advantage of such things.

SAAB's Trionic engine management system probably isn't unique, but it can alter the timing on individual cylinders if it detects pinking. So the blurb says.
