View Full Version : Idea for a rideout...

Just a passing thought (yes it did hurt!)... something for October so Jabba will be allowed out....

Meet at Aust services.... over old severn bridge towards Chepstow... head towards Chepstow racecourse, but before the roundabout near it, turn off onto the B4235 (THAT twisty road towards Abergavenny for the MoFo's!) heading towards Usk..
pass through Usk, taking B4598 Towards Abergavenny...

get to Abergavenny, and stop at Bus Station... mingle with local bike riders etc.. fag break for those chain smokers amongst us...

Onto A40... all the way to Llandovery.... stop at West End Cafe for grub.... and see the strange sight of a Ducati out when its not summer

Now, I dont know how long all this will take, but the plan would be to go up onto the Black Mountains then.. and stop at the car park at the top.. VERY nice twisty bits going up and down the mountain

so that would be leave Llandovery taking A4069 to Llangadog..

eventualy end up in Brynaman... taking A4068 towards Ystalyfera / Ystradgynlais way.. up the A4067 turning off onto A4221 at Abercraf.. staying on this road until we get to Glyn Neath... take old Glyn Neath bank up to Rhigos (unclassified road on maps..) then head towards Penderyn.. taking on 1000 sheep road aka the A4059.. get onto the A470.. stop at Storey Arms for burgers etc...

carry onto the A40.. and back towards Abergavenny... from there, people can dispurse homward bound.. though those of you who are brave enough may then want to be taken back via 2 x 270 degree corners

taking back roads towards Raglan onto A40 for very short distance onto the A449 for 1 of those corners, then turning off a few miles down the road to get to Usk via another one of those 270 degree corners... then taking B4235 bak to Chepstow.. and take a sedate pace back homward bound.. head still spinning from all the corners ?

Is that a good idea anyone ?

 It's got 1000 sheep road on the route, count me in although at this rate my bike will need its' 11k service by then as well as another new rear boot that it needs already cos the profile has worne poo.

I can meet the Swindon lot at Nam and catch the Bristol bunch at Morrissons then off via the old bridge to Abergavenny via the Usk road.

I will of course be riding with my usual sedate placid and considerate style that accompanies my elder years

 you can tell us about your rideouts through the smoke shortly....

nothing stopping you turning up and making a weekend of it.. you will still have two wheels to travel on you know...

Beenz.. would LIKE to video that road.. but I have neither a video camera... or a camera mount to put on the bike.. plus the way the weather is going, may have to wait until the really cold weather is here.. at least it tends to be a bit dryer then!

As the bloke who sold the design for the Rabbit once said "If you build it they will come".

That goes for us too, allowing for weather of course.

Isnt that we way we always go, except we meet you at Abergavenny. Or is that why you are laughing?

I was thinking a sunday anyway, as that means there will be other bikers at Abergavenny..
also, roads wont be as full of cars as a saturday...

and yes Rich, thats the usual way you lot get to Abergavenny... but not everyone has been that way...

was wondering as well Jabba.. if/when decide on a date... you can ask some of the Hornets nest.. thats unless they all pack up their bikes for bad weather!

Most of the best roads in South Wales on this route VB, I’ve ridden them all, but never in one go. It’s not for the feint hearted at 183 miles, a squidge too long for an evening.

I’ve just plotted it out on Autoroute and can ask Jabba to host it if you’d like.

Sadly. I’ve got no free weekend until late November, unless I drop another IAM Sunday observed session, but we usually end up at Aber Bus Depot at about 5.00pm so may see you there.

Ooooooh you buggers..

That won't be an evening run, best to start in the morning it'll be a good couple hours that will.

It's about 50 miles longer than the "Welsh Way Round" jobbies, so more of an all-dayer, particularly in the autumn, when light fades much earlier. And don't forget theat some peeps will have to ride home afterwards.

Happy to do that.

Can smudge a few miles off here and there.. would like to get to end of week first and see what condition my bike is in at that point.... then start planning this thing a bit better....
