View Full Version : More sedate ride

Anyone else fancy the odd slightly more sedate ride? Not talking about pottering about like an old woman (appologies to any fast old women on the forum), but slightly less knee dragging and slightly more chances of survival. Each to their own, but looks like the rides on here focus on how many new scrapes you can get on your sliders and how much you can show others you can ride harder/faster than they can.

So if anyone fancies a more "inclusive" less "hardcore" but still "progressive" ride out some time, let me know and I'll sort something out.

If however you are one of the hardcore knee draggers, then I'm not having a go at you at all, you carry on, just it's not for me but I thought perhaps others may fancy a bit of fun too without feeling inadequate or under pressure to keep up and so do something stupid.

Cheers,
Mark

I've enjoyed every rideout, all of them organised through the forum, and I haven't had me knee down yet (well not without other bits).
If we can get more people on the rideouts then they just happily spread out with the faster ones stopping to let the slower ones catch up, if they don't catch up anyway for one reason or another. I don't think anyone here wouldn't want you on a rideout because of what you describe, or more importantly they wouldn't pressure you to keep up or do anything you didn't want to do. There has always been a great marker system so that no one gets left behind (i.e someone at the front stops to direct everyone else at a junction - then they can make their way to the front again if they want).
So I really think you would enjoy any rideout.

Come along to the next rideout if you can and you'll see that we don't all ride that, fair play to those who do but i personally don't. Don't feel \pressured to keep up, we wont leave you behind

The runs are normall well organised with most people knowing the route and normally have directions available as well

So just get yourself along to a run and enjoy it

I never had my knee down, on the rideouts I can go middle/upper middle of the pack fast or slower at back of the rideout depending on how I feel. Never been left behind. I check my mirrors every now and then to make sure I don't lose the person behind me and slow down if they can't keep up.

I ride alone at the speed limits normally. (paranoia saves my license)

Were not all mad men, and were never trying to make anyone ride out of their capabilities. Knee down is just a bit of fun and who says its any more dangerous than banking over without ure knee down? You have exactly the same amount of contact with the road no matter how far lent over you are.

Yes i ride fast, only in nationals though (IAM), as i like to stick as close to 30, 40, 50's as i can without holding the group up.

IMHO i think more dangerous riding comes from riders that overtake on junctions and speed in the congested area's. This is where you asking for trouble!

Just come out for a ride and you'll see what its like.

That's right Si, it's just me and you!

Our rideouts are for riders of all skill levels and we don't ride about like total nutters (all the time). We always slow down to let the others catch up and it always works well. I see you're in Fleet so not too far from most of us. Post a suggested route/date/time and we'll join you!

All the best,
Dan

Lots of sensible words $i, and fully in line with the IAM standards I am pleased to see (Although they are clamping down on the NSLs as they can not be seen to condone speeding). Perhaps it is just that the only people who post any sort of follow-up on the rides just mention the madder bits?

Definately up for a nice A339-Alton back through Odiham up past Mattingly then back by which ever way works at some time as there's lots there for everyone and plent of opportunities to progress and a serious righthander for those with a propensity to hang off like an ape.

$i, did you complete your IAM, and did you go on to trainer or just for the cheaper insurance?

Yup the 339 to basingstoke is a lovely peice of road, best for a Sunday morning when there are less mobile chicanes about. It's probably true that (certainly me) post the bits about rides that I found to be a little fun/scary but we always aim to go out for a ride with the intention of coming home in one peice. I've never done IAM, I didn't get on with them but I'm lucky enough to have private 1-2-1 tuition from an instructor who trains coppers!

I will about this Sunday should anyone fancy a nice ride along the 339 (weather permitting).

You are spot on there mark. It is funny how if u get ure knee down ure classed as a mad head. I know people in iam that scrape their pegs around corners going round just as fast as i am with my KD. But there u go.

I passed my IAM test when i was 17, 3 years ago now, seems like yesterday. Did it at st. crispins, wokingham. regularly go on rides and trackdays with the tvam lot as it all good fun. Would have gone on 2 be an observer, but @ the end of the day, who's gonna listen to a 20yr old?

What about you? you IAM? observer? etc.

We have not done alot of rideouts as a group, but I feel every ride out we have done has been pretty safe. Wanna go fast, go fast and head to the front, go at a more sedate pace then hang back a bit. Just come along to a rideout or indeed post one up and you'll see we are all careful bikers.

I'm currently putting together a rideout for a couple of weeks time so ill post details up when I know but meantime if you've got a rideout post it up, that goes to everyone

Please can you avoid 1st Sunday of the month, like last time, as it coincides with Guildford's IAM.
Thanks

This Saturdays a no-go for me I'm afraid, Sunday should be OK.

In more general terms it's great to see an interest all-round in doing more rideouts, I was worried it might just be me :) .

No no, were all equally nutty about riding as each other. Just throw up a date and you'll be surprised how many people will pop along. Starting to get a good turn out for most things now

I've taken a chance and placed a post for a ride this Saturday, it'll be quite an early one, but if you're up for it, let me know.

$i, as for IAM, also been doing mine at St Crispins. Passed my test couple of weeks ago and am now considering my options about becoming a trainer, but not sure if I can commit enough time to make it worth their while. I know what you mean about somone going round you on a Pan with their pegs grinding away but 99 times out of 100 you only lean that far over for effect. I also now find myself tutting when people overtake at junctions and brake on bends but I suppose that goes with the territory.

Hopefully get to meet some of you on Saturday if you can get out of bed early enough.
