I used to be up to speed on this all but im not at the moment,
i move house in a couple of weeks and want to re jig my broadband phone and if possible get digi tv in too.
However i currently only spend £25 on bt and £15 on tiscali,
i have no probs with any of ther service from the two providers...
Being tight i dont want to spend any more than i am really, the digi tv isnt that important either i rarley watch it these days, but with the world going digi as a 21 yr old i guess i should get up to speed... (my gma has a 32" lcd, i have a 19inch 10 yr old crt")
i think NTL is the provider around our way, scary enuff !!
does any one else have any suggestions how bet to re jig it all?
also considering scraping it all and moving into a tree hous ein the middle of a forest, where i can harness the power of the natural environment to survive...
eitherway im happy..
ta.. :)

Do you have cable available,
if so just buy Internet, forget phone and use VoIP.

Sky would be an option
They give free broadband if you subscribe to certain packages - and for £10/month on top of the TV subs, you can get up to 16Mbps with no usage cap
Going to be looking at it myself, so dont know full details of their "Acceptable Usage Policy" so cant comment on how good/bad it will be.

NTL is set to release 2mb broadband, tv, phone and mobile package after the purchase of virgin for £40 a month.

I found out recently that VoIP doesnt work with Sky+ or HD. Well that applies to Vonage anyway
Vested interest alert - I work for NTL
NTL cheapest package is £11 per month for phone with free digital TV for £25 installation. You can add Virgin mobile SIM card to that for £10 per month (no contract just 30 days notice) giving you 300 mins any network anytime and 300 text. If you want to add broadband, then as above 3 for £30 or 4 for £40
Sky - Broadband 2GB (per mth limit) is free for £40 installation, but I like 8MB (plenty GB) for £5 per month £20 installation IF IT IS AVAILABLE IN YOUR AREA. This only requires £15 a month basic package (half price for 3 mths). BUt you need a BT phone line, not NTL.
Cable, if you can, you should.
 only joking choose what you like!

NTL? Their customer service is legendary - and not for good reasons. I'm reminded of this recent thread:

NTL/Telewest are the worlds biggest rip off merchants when it comes to phone, that is why I don't use it and use VoIP.
All their TV packages require you to take a phone service with additional monthly line rental.
Best bet is to take a sky satellite TV deal and an NTL cable modem internet service.
2MB broadband @ £17.99 from NTL and sky digital from sky themselves for about £15
so £33 pounds then take your telephone from someone like sipgate who don't charge for a line, cheaper call rates than BT/NTL etc.
Also remember the free sky broadband is capped, unlimited would cost you £10/month plus you still also have to pay BT for the phone rental
BT Option 1 would cost you £11/month and calls to landlines 3p/minute
so take a cable as above you true service cost is then £17.99 for the internet subtract the £11/month a phone would cost so cost is then £6.99 for unlimited 2MB internet. companies like sipgate don't charge a line rental. you would need to puy a sip phoen or ata etc but tbh they are not expensive. Call costs especially international are far cheaper.

Sounds quite complicated but :
That's a bit unfair - you get a digital TV package that is far superior to freeview (it includes Sky One) for free, assuming you cancel your BT line rental Plus you get free weekend calls - you get nothing for free from BT.
If you have SKY why would you get internet from NTL? - get it from SKY £5 a month is a good package. Also SKY talk £5 for unlimited calss 24/7 is excellent.
I believe you get a cheaper service using a prefix number from a landline phone than using VOIP - please feel free to prove me wrong (depends what countries are important to you) - What's your cheapest cost to Barbados for example?

However i currently only spend £25 on bt and £15 on tiscali,
If you're happy with BT & Tiscali, you could get the Tiscali 2Mb+anytime for £20/month. you then just have to pay the BT line rental i.e. £12/month.
This then gives you 2Mb (or as close as tiscali can get) broadband and free phone calls 24x7 (except mobiles & non-geographic).

OK Barbados ain't cheap 14p/min. but I talked to a mate working out in China last week at 1.7p/minute and the wife talks to her cousin in Australia for 1.8p/min
My biggest gripe with the likes of NTL:Telewest is a 6p connection charge on all calls. So a 30 second call cost something like 7.5 pence. If they are going to charge you to make a call they should scrap line rentals.
