View Full Version : Idiot on a Triumph

I came across a real plonker today. Sitting behind me at lights sounding his horn, trying to get me to move forward and let him come through so he could cut left across the traffic like I was doing. I had nowhere to go, with out totally blocking the pelican crossing which at that time of day is used by hoards of schoolkids trapsing to school. So I'm almost 45 degrees across the car at the head of the queue, a cyclist on my left who is undoubtadly going straight on (not many push bikes take a left onto the A40!!) and this idiot on the triumph tries to force me across and forward even more by just sitting on his horn. I moved as much as I could without totally blocking the crossing, and he still sat on his horn. Even the cyclist spoke to me and said the guy behind you is tooting (as if I hadn't heard)
I just shrugged my shoulders to the biker behind me. I mean I always move out the way, but I'm not gonna block the crossing, intimidate the guy on the bike just cos this guy has made a bad decision to come up behind me instead of tucking in one car back. Anyway the lights change and around I go onto the A40 slip road waiting for this guy to come past (I'm not into racing specially in the weather we had this AM.) But he doesn't / can't. Instead I keep hearing the horn - he kept on tooting his horn all the way down the slip. Onto the A40 and I keep left to let him through and guess what, I get the nod of dissaproval from this guy before he filters off. Now here's the funny bit, I can still hear this guy blipping his horn! Every time he goes to filter past a vehicle, he's tooting! Is this some newly discovered method of safely filtering? No joke, he is just tooting and hesitantly passing each car. I'm very slow at filtering. I like to keep it at a speed I feel comfortable with and always move over to allow the many London bound couriers and commuters past, but I am just sitting behind this guy who seems to have no idea. Needless to say, within a short time, a stream of bikes go past me and end up behind the guy on the triumph, backing up like a procession. Ironic that he dissaproved of me at the lights!
So should I have gone through the junction, blocked the crossing and carved up the cyclist just to get in this guys favour? Shame to see such a great looking Triumph, being ridden by an idiot. Of course he may be part of this forum and like to put his side of the story over......

if that behaviour was anything other than a loose wire on the horn then hes an idiot of the highest order i think. Sounds like the kind of fool who just got out of his BMW and still carries that attitude that everyone owes him something.

I would probably have got off my bike at the lights and told his to stop f****in beeping at me as ive gone as far out of his way as i can and all the beeping in the world aint gonna make me move. But thats me and i think you did the right thing.

I can see the point of tooting WHILST filtering, the horn was designed to let other folks know you're there, and in London traffic, I'd hate for them not to know I'm there!

Having said that, sitting on the horn at the lights was just plain wrong. Maybe he powerwashed his bike before he set off, and water worked its way into the horn wiring :?:

Turn round next time and give him one of these, while making it as patronising as humanly possible.

Failing that, get off and proceed to introduce your foot to his head.

Oh BBA...How naive of you to react in that way [-X

Dont you know that us triumph riders own the roads and we can do whatever the hell we please when we want :-({|=

Had a similar thing recently: stuck behind a scooter from the BP garage just in from hanger Lane until Park Royal where I pulled in front of him, then had him leaning on his horn when I was stopped by a gap between 2 trucks that wasn't more than 6 inces at the closest point.

I'm an ex-courier and I filter like a loony, but if someone's in front of me I wait until it's safe (ish) and pass when I can.

Although saying that, people who ride the white line at the speed of the surrounding cars irritate the living hell out of me...
