Jaysus.

I am sure, Kurt Cobain would be... Stoked. And Psyched. At the same time.
Seriously though lads. There is no need for that.

I initially thought the first 'pluckings' were way too high pitched and was thinking AGH!!!... then I found out it was so they could get the chorus violins in...

Must've taken some putting together. :D

Much better!

My favourite use in metal is the 42-piece philharmonic orchestra in this:

Its extremely powerful and well used I think!

EDIT: Just thought, it might have half a shadowy breast somewhere in it so is not technically U-rated, hope its ok.

Don't need all that.

Just take a listen to 'Now Before the Sacred Ray' from Haydn's Creation. And turn the volume UP.

Stirring stuff

I know that Haydn isn't very "Youtube" orientated, but is there any link for a sample of that, I'd be interested to try it out?

Try the 1812 overture on full volume. Tchaikovski (not so clever with my russian spelling! ) was a metal head!!!

Also ELO did orchestral stuff years ago!

I once saw Cozy Powell drum solo to the 1812 overture. Complete with flamethrowers and explosions.

I was just listening to Metallica's S&M... Now that's how you do it. -Human's probably the heaviest thing Metallica have touched for years, but my dad loves it for the orchestral work. Genius.

I know nothing about proper orchestral music, though, wish I did but where do you start? The big horns just sound magic, loud but soft, so much depth. I can take or leave violins, nasty screechy things, but the percussion and brass, and the bigger strings and woodwind, I love. The richness of the sound and the sheer dynamics of it knocks me out... Any ideas what I should go and find?

:( About the only instrument I can play

Don't you even like the theme to Schindler's List? Or how about the Ashokan Farewell, played by the band of Her Majesty's Royal Marines, Plymouth - it's yet more stirring stuff. Not militaristic, just a joy to the ear.

The Lord Of The Rings trilogy OST. Superb orchestral work. With some elder nasty screechy things about - the Rohan theme.

What about Velvet Underground › Venus In Furs then?
Shiny, shiny, shiny boots of leather
Whiplash girlchild in the dark.

You know you love it.
