What nanny state? This is a company making a bad decision based on legal advice they claim they've taken (presumably, not from a lawyer ;) ). It's utter nonsense... On the other hand, it'll save a fair amount of wasted time in the office.

This may be one of the more extreme cases, but it's far from an isolated case. Legislation to prevent age discrimination (or indeed any form of discrimination) in the workplace is very welcome, but unfortunatley there will always be cases where things are taken too far.

Like many of these things its not the regulations themselves but the way we seem in this country to have especialy zealous f***tards enforcing them.

Its like the old scenario that you tell a joke involving a black guy and who dobs you in, not the black guy, but a white guy who was worried the black guy might be offended. Oversimplistic but sums up the way of things for me.

Look at farmhouse prioduce. Loads worried they would go out of business because of regs for this and that, well meaning of course. Then look at countries like Greece, life goes on just like before.

I'm th eldest in our office, so have to endure all the "old man" jokes, you've just got to take them in the spirit they are given. I also get to play on it, getting the younger people to move bulky items etc.

I hope this level of PC doesn't catch on in Local Government - A card from our management would be treated with the derision that it would deserve.

Yeh, just tell em you wont do it again. You'll be fine. Dont worry about it. Oh and wear a suit for the trail. They want you looking well turned out when you first arrive at the big boys jail.

You just know that the next American President would love to have that song play at his inauguration ceremony.
