I got through to them today and have been informed that they are no longer in the uk, they have moved there factory to portugal.

So no more custom work from them.

Yep, a sad but true story. Jorge has found operating costs in the Uk high, and demand for his product dwindle over the past couple of years. Some say it was too expensive, but the quality always is. It has been on the cards for some while. So hes sold up and off hes gone. So you are right, no more custom work.

Wonder what the effect on Pillion would be tho - ie are the piped too close to the pegs, would definately mean I would have to leave the panniers off tho.....

Thanks! :DOkies, i just called his missus and she informs me that its only recently, like the past couple of weeks. So they are currently setting up the factory over there. When all sorted, then they will update thier website with the new contact details. In the meantime, they are still contactable on the email address on the website.

No offence to Renegade, but the reason they could sell twins at that price was that literally nobody else did them. As soon as Laser, Ixil etc started, there goes their market. I think the Renegades were actually better products, but it still remains they were asking roughly twice for the 3/4 system twins than Laser did for their full system. They've not reacted well to that competition IMO, so something had to give.

You can't blame the government for that, unless you think close to 50% of the entire RRP is going to the government, in addition to what a company in, say, Portugal would pay. And it doesn't. CCC can make a decent quality slipon in the UK at a third the price of a Renegade.... Zorstec can custom build a twin full system from scratch that'll cost less than a Rene (although it's luck of the draw if it adds or loses power), and half of that labour time is jig building and experimentation. Both UK companies... There's others too.

Don't think it's that easy around here either... I really don't know if it's actually better or worse, but our Government is on a money chasing spree at the moment, and those suffering are the small companies because of the lack of funds to stand up and fight... Renegade's biggest advantage in moving here might be employee's wages... they can probably pay more than our national average and still cut on expenses compared to when they were in England. :roll:

That was a wee bit of a rushjob of a post as I was packing up at work, and came across a bit wrong I think... Renegade are a good company, so it's a shame to hear about this, it's just the kneejerk "Must be the government's fault" that got my back up.

Still, I do think they do some things basically wrong. They charge a premium price for a premium product, but they're not well enough known that a lot of people would pay for that. You need to have people thinking "I want a renegade" if you're not competing directly on price- £310 for a high level titanium oval puts you right into Akrapovic/Laser/Yoshi/Remus territory, and it's not even road legal, that's an extra £30. The twins were always at the same price point as the best single-exit exhaust systems in the world- and even though the semi-full with surgery doesn't really cost much performance, people want a full system for full system prices. The surgery screams "bodge" no matter how well it might work- and would you be happy telling people you spent £600 on an exhaust when the front header's still stock and rusty? When they got an M4 or Akrapovic for the same price?

Also, their website's diabolical... That ought to be their biggest advert- big galleries, dyno charts right there when they want to use power as a selling point, proper price lists, all that. They lack visibility on teh street, it's not like Scorpion or Micron where you see them everywhere, so the website has to show you what the product is. It's not even expensive to do. But the site reminds me of nothing as much as old home-brew geocities sites from about 1995. Web presence is really important these days. There's still pricelists from 2003 right there on the website, if I was shopping for a can and saw that I'd assume the company was out of business. Even the Suzuki list's marked 2005.

There's any number of british exhaust companies and engineering companies not just surviving but thriving... I hope this move can be the start of a renaissance though, despite all my criticism I was very impressed with renegade whenever I dealt with them, and with Jorge in particular- he's not someone I'd like to see vanish from the bike scene.

I have to admit, i loved the idea of a twin system (TL1000 style), but at £800, i simpley couldnt justify it.

I got a custom exhaust made for my car, manifold back, 7 hours work (i waited and watched), two custom rear cans and a whole load of bending, welding and cutting......

£320. That was 5 years ago and its still going strong..... I've been back to ahve the whole system raised (after i done some work on the car), and then back again to change the whole center section after for a larger bore after I cahnged my engine...

Total cost thus far, 3 different exhaust custom made systems, £600........ All Stainless stuff too.

£800 for a 1/4 of the material is VERY expensive, esp when you can buy a exhaust for like £100-£200 these days..

Spot on, Rene make excellent products, a tad on the pricey side but worth it.

The only reason I chose them was because of recommendations from this forum - without that I would never ever had considered them - especially if I had seen their website!

I love my Rene high level and will always attempt to buy Rene in the future, but being abroad would make it more difficult as I went to the factory to have it fitted last time.....

Reneage did have customer services that were THE best. Never have I received such good service and you could see everyone on their site agreed also.

I loved the fact that the cans were easily serviceable but to be honest, few design flaws and the cans themselves really were not that pretty to look at. The cans rarely have logos on them (I'd like one but not with their current cheesey logo!), the hanging straps were really quite ugly and the P clamps they used for the twin can set-up were utter tosh. I think they changed them after a customer told them of a better way to support them.

I had twin high levels on a firestorm and they were gash.Holes and cracks on downpipes and cans, nasty brackets. Got them re-packed, no difference in sound. Got them re-skinned (alloy to s/s) horrendous seams down the cans. No comparison to remus/akra/yoshi/micron. Not even a great sound! Mate had same bike with hi-remus and the difference in quality and sound was obvious.

The only two positives were they really short n'stubby and they came wi the bike! :?

No surprise if i am honest. Can't remember the last time I seen them on a bike!?

Hope you folks wi them fitted have more joy................ :(
