Insure it tomorrow. Whenever I've got insurance, they've said "OK, you're insured from now and we'll post details to you." So long as you pay them on the phone.

You might want to insure it now. You might not hold a licence, but at least it'll mean its insured for theft.

When I passed my test last year, the dealership wouldn't let me have the bike until they'd received the insurance certificate, but I couldn't get insured until I'd passed my test. Which meant that I had to sit and wait for the post to arrive.

Fortunately it turned up the day after I did my DA, so all was right with the world :)

Was it a brand new bike? Cos they would need the insurance document to get the bike taxed.

When I got my new bike, which was before I did my DAS test, I got it insured from the day I was hoping to pass my test, all paper work came through 2 days before my test.

Insurance co were happy to do this and said I sould ring them if I fail so they can change the policy.

Yes, that's right. Forgot to mention that :)

I had a hard time insuring mine before I got my license... Most companies just didn't seem to understand the question. I bought it about 2 months before I could do my DAS.

I had my bike insured before passed my test, and before I did my CBT. After all if i ride the bike with no lisence then my insurance is invalid.

NIG give you 45 days to get your license from inception date,

I took this to mean only the Theft cover would be in play, but later found out that it meant that as long as I was riding legally (private road or under proper tuition then I would be covered - ie I could have done my test on my own bike.

Would double check on the "unlicensed but legal" bit, but they will definately insure before you pass - my SV was insured for about 3 weeks before - and one of those it was still in the shop !!!

Why do so many people rush out and buy flash new bikes before they have even taken their tests.
I knew someone who, on a whim decided they wanted to be a 'biker' bought an R6, new helmet and leathers. Paid for direct access, failed the test, promtly decided he preferred four wheels to two and ended up having to sell the lot for a fraction of what he paid for it on ebay!
I realise that this is the extreme, but has anyone not thought about passing their test first and then having some fun choosing their bike?

I knew I was going to get my license eventually - and Suzuki were ending their 3yr 0% deal a week after my second test (which I failed)

I bought new becausw I wanted a pointy SV and new on finance seemed the most economical way

Dont regret it for a moment

it adds an incentive to pass, I had new leathers, new helmet and a new bike at the shop ready to pick up on the day of my test.... lucky I passed, then went to garage and collected my new bike.
