Helmet Skirt - Tried one?

Bought a helmet skirt recently from Busters

Worked fine at first, kept the wind out, so no more watery eyes :P
But go anything above 80mph and the thing just blew off and flapped around my neck; very distracting :shock:
Anyone had any experience of these, is it just my lid causing the problem :?:

I've used one of these on my Shoei XR-1000 for the whole winter and its never budged once. Is your lid a matte or glossy finish? The grippy stuff on the helmet skirt works much better on glossy finishes...

The reduction in both noise and cold wind is great - putting on and taking off the lid is a little tighter but its still fine. Works out way cheaper than the accessory that Shoei sell too.

Aye thats another one which i was looking at - £22 cheapest i found them, apparently stay on better as theres a hard plastic rim which goes around the base inside the helmet.

I dont imagine it would be that great for the middle of summer but rest of year should be good

Was thinking about one of these so I didnt have to fiddle with ear plugs all the time.

Would some of those sticky velco pads put on the helmet and sewn on the helmet skirt help keep it in place?

I've got the shoei one, it also comes with a bit that goes under your chin too. it certainly keeps you warmer but i have managed to mist up the magic pinlock anti-mist thingy (only whilst stationary and at v low speeds though). i'm not sure how much difference it makes with respect to noise, i'll test it out at the weekend.

Might do the trick - but to be honest I dont think the noise reduction would be as much as you get from earplugs. I always wear plugs, even with the helmet skirt fitted to the lid. Definitely want my hearing to stay as good as it is...:)

You should always wear earplugs. You may not notice it now, but you will in 15-20 years.

"Doctors" reckon that 20 minutes on a bike (std can) is about the limit before it starts to have a permanent effect on your hearing. Friend of mine got himself a nice Tuono with a decent set of cans and after less than 6 months was complaining of tinnitus.... Due to not wearing earplugs.

Just the constant wind noise is enough. A quiet lid is a great bit of kit but it can never take the place of proper earplugs. Rather than spend money on a helmet skirt, invest in some decent moulded ear defenders. I know they're expensive (about £60'ish) but they are worth the investment.

Believe me, I wear them whenever I'm on the bike (OK, maybe not if I pop down the shops) and they really make a difference and once they've softened up a bit, they are really comfortable, plus they're much better for your ears than the foam ones.

They're also great when you want a bit of peace & quiet, like trying to sleep on a plane :D
