Hi All
its now nearly two years since the great man shuffled off this mortal coil, so I was wondering what tracks he played that had a big effect on you. For my part it has to be Love will tear us apart by Joy Division. What about youselves?

He introduced me to punk. I listened every night from 10pm to midnight on my headphones in bed, from about 1975 to 1977. Then I got a motorbike :)

yeah, he was a great guy
I had the pleasure of taking him out for a curry when he came to Glasgow Uni, he was really laid back and easy to talk to
Introduced me to a lot of bands, via headphones in bed for the evening slot :D

I have been a night driver for years and used to listen to his show every night. There was definetly some right dross on there but I loved the way he would give bands the airtime. After he died one of the first thing I thought was whos going be a lifeline for these unsigned bands.

I used to listen to him in the late sixties, early seventies.
He used to play a lot of Captain Beefheart, Zappa, Hendrix etc
plus Fairport Convention, Incredible String Band - some very different bands.
Through his show, I went to see one of those 'underground' bands called Led Zeppelin in a tiny London theatre - I think they had about 300W of amplification in total (most cars have more now, it seems), and were brilliant.

Unfortunatley I didnt listen to him. I did read his autobiography a couple of weeks ago and its amazing how he has shaped peoples lives and paths - bands as well as individuals. An inspirational read that makes you want to get the most out of life.
