View Full Version : Looking for some sort of actuator...

Not really sure what would fit the bill here... It's got to be fairly small and light- couple of fag packets at most- 12V, and able to pull a cable about an inch, either with a lateral pull or a rotation. Doesn't need to be particularily strong, though. Cheap is good ;) Someone suggested an EXUP actuator but I think that might be too big?

look at stepper motors that you find in RC cars etc..

Or an RC model servo, very torquey, very small, throw depends on lever geometry, you'd get an inch pull easily

Are you making a flip up number plate

Not sure what sort of actuation you need, but wouldn't something from a car central locking system do? Door or boot release....

Thanks folks, looks like a stepper might be the simplest option... Servos look like more trouble to control? And bear in mind who you're talking to here, simple is the number one goal ;)

um, I have no idea what you're talking about. *glazes over in a cazza-like fashion*

I'll go and busy myself elsewhere....

Then probably a servo is better from an RC car than a stepper motor which needs some logic control i think.

I've got an brand new exhaust valve actuator from a GSXR600K6.

It's about the size of a fag packet. Comes with the necessary push and pull cables as well.

Make me an offer.

Maplin do central locking motors.. move about an inch? Cost a tenner for a 5watt.

That's on the right lines actually. I might pop into Maplins and see how that'd work. It's certainly closer to the intender purpose anyway ;) Dones't need a brain either, that I can see.

Thanks again folks.

It is a Sekrit I never say what I'm doing unless I know it's going to work ;)

I know what it is - your going to use the actuator to depress the centre pin in acan of butane straight into the exhaust -flames on demand

DO NOT TRY THIS AT HOME

Yes, I am, now :) Make that 2 central locking motors :)

He's putting a rear spoiler on his bike which rises when he reaches 70mph... Porche like...
