Glasgow recommendations

hi all im off glasgow this friday/saturday. any ideas on what to see/do in glasgow seems like ill be idol for a while

I'd suggest getting on the train from Queen Street Station to Edinburgh. :wink: They run every 15 minutes. :thumbsup:

It's all rubbish through there :) If you're a shopping type, Buchanan Galleries I suppose. There's an irrationally tall cinema, built very close to a normal cinema that couldn't fill its screens on a saturday, presumably for tax-evasion purposes, that's good.

I like the Transport Museum, myself. I'm told the art museum in Kelvinside, what's it called? The Kelvingrove Art Museum, that's it. As art museums go, it's got good word of mouth, the Queen said it was OK. And she knows her art museums, she lives in one. Science Museum? I've never been.

Good nightlife though, I can't really recommend anywhere since I always end up in the Cathouse, Barfly, or King Tuts. The Arches is becoming legendary...

It’s Glasgay time again, with nearly a month of top-notch entertainment in store to celebrate the very best in LGBT culture.

In terms of sheer size, the festival is up there with the best artistic offerings on the calendar, featuring over 50 events across a range of genres.

Highlights include several excellent films, including the Spanish comedy-drama Queens at the GFT on October 15 and 17, which offers a glossy take on the country’s first mass gay wedding.

Music also features heavily throughout the programme, with the Riverside club’s Gay Fawkes Special on November 4 and The Arches’ club night Death Disco, on October 14, expected to be among the best nights of Glasgay 2006.

Meanwhile, the Q! Gallery – a year-round showcase for the work of gay artists – serves as a base for proceedings thanks to a series of workshops and performances.

Top comedy shows at The Stand, by Jason Woods (My Anus Horribilis) and Zoe Lyon (Bent Double) on October 22 and 30 respectively, offer some light relief and add to the diversity of the entertainment.

If all this sounds like the major gay event of the year, well, that’s because it is – since it debuted in 2002, Glasgay has become the biggest multi-artform festival of its kind in the UK.

Glasgow’s gay community, along with their friends, family and revelers from around the world, are expected to swell this year’s crowd figures above 2005’s record high of 24,000.

How about a nice open top bus tour? You'll need your woolly hat but it's a great way to see the city. Also the water taxi that runs down to Braehead gives you a great view of the riverside regeneration. And while you're there Xscape is full of things to do from snowboarding to mini g.o.l.f.

For strolling and consuming walk from the Merchant City along Argyle Street up Buchanan Street and along Sauchiehall Street to the West End. Many, many places to eat, drink, buy stuff and watch the beautiful ladies.

The science centre is a bloody good laugh - planetarium, Imax cinema the whole thing. Or how about the Scottish Football museum at Hampden Park or a stadium tour of Ibrox/Celtic Park?

Basically you don't have enough time to do it all!!

But don't ask me about pubs and clubs, I've got two kids instead. :roll:

try the Kevlingrove art galleries, across the road theres the transport museum. there are plenty of special places to go to to see some of the best architecture in Britain, theres the Glasgow school of art , the lighthouse building.

good very good went to the transport museum then kelvingrove on friday morning. then later to the variety bar and the abc club in Sauchiehall st. really liked Glasgow it has more night life but Edinburgh is very unique but just too many tourists.

You'll get a huge detached house (and perhaps change) for the price of a terraced house up here. Tooting was fun - when we visited the Irish club (Tooting Bec tube).
