My little Fiesta has been great, 19,000 miles and going strong. Mine is metallic ink blue and its very much like black. Bugger to keep shiney, but looks great when it is.
I'll be sad to see her go.
But the replacement machine will be more than suitable :) :)

Spec over colour every time IMHO, buying the wrong colour car could mean its difficult to shift when you want to change it.
I havent got any experience of either of those cars though.
Hovi5, have you driven any of the latest Fords, both the Focus and Mondeo's I've driven were cracking drives.
Its come down to you at the end of the day, what you gonna do, buy a car because its the one you want or are you going to buy a car because a load of people off an internet site, most of which you havent met told you to.

Then get yourself a proper car. German (Seat are "germanized" too) or Jap (Toyota especially). Forget about those French Things With Wheels. Oh, and don't even consider going Italian. Ever.
are you a girl?
NO
then you have answered your own question
Hmmm Pug 207...Ugly not that good a drive, but resale and popularity are good.
corsa...the Chav Chariot of choice, Basball cap included. However, the corsa i think is a better drive over the 207. The 207 still has that funny front suspension thing when you go over bumps on the motorway, plus its fugly.
Out of the 2, the corsa.
I would however, look at the fiesta or maybe a Polo?
Just dont buy a Fiat Grande Punto 1.2...about as much power as a Harley!
Would have to agree with Viney on the Pug but c'mon...black is loads better than the puke-orange...yes its a bitch to keep clean but the resale on the black would be way better. You may as well be buying the car in pink if you go for the orange

I'm surprised no-one has mentioned the Toyota Yaris (assuming you want a small car)...
Not a bad-looking car, fun to drive, good value for money, reliable. AND a new model's just come out, so used prices of the old model will have gone down, but have already taken the initial hit of depreciation so should still hold it's value quite well when you need to sell it.

If you wanted something a bit more unusual why not a Mazda 2? They don't have a fabulous image but are generally way up the top of the JD Power list for reliability. The M2 was developed with Ford and shares the Fiesta platform - it also uses Ford engines though.
I only mention in it as the Mazda 6 is on my potentials list for replacing my car next year.
Check out the Honest John (http://www.honestjohn.co.uk/home/index.htm) car by car pages for more info - good review site.

Nobody's suggested the Skoda Fabia. Compared to a Corsa, 207, Fiesta, Clio, Polo, Yaris etc it's a bargain, better specced, better built, more reliable, cheap to buy, run and insure.
Ok, it's a Skoda, but if you drive a Corsa, brand snobbery obviously isn't that important. It's still a VW Polo underneath the badge, and it's a bloody sight cheaper.

Ditto to most of the responses on here. Stay away from the nice bright colours. Very hard to re-sell.
Black are a bugger to keep clean, I had a gorgeous Polo TDI Colour Concept., but I used to keep it looking clean with goodpolish/wax. Zymol!
As far as Peugeot 207's are concerned, have a drive in one, then a go in a new Fiesta. The new Fords are miles better than the older models, probably a leap in improvments comparible to the old Astra to the new Astra in the Vauxhall range. Give them a go.
I've had, a ford, Peugeot, Nissan and VW.
Out of all of theose I'd defo say try a VW. Build quality is excellent, just test drive the beasts first.

I'd agree with that too. Mate has a SKODA VRS fabia!
Fast as a FAST THING! 1.9 Tdi, Gold engine, with 144BHP and 300 odd Llb Foot torque!!

And pick one up brand spanking for well under 12 grand if you haggle. Bargain.
Thumping TDi motor, friend has a Ibiza FR with this lump and it pulls very well :)

I have a Mazda 6, and it's a great car.
I wouldn't buy the 2 tho' - it's not built in Japan. I'd much prefer the 3 (esp the MPS)
Cheap insurance on the Mazda too
As for the 207 / Corsa - it would have to be the pug.
There are just so many good deals on the mid-size cars - Mondeo sized - that make them such a good buy against the little cars. They can tow a bike trailer too.

For a small car get something from VAG - VW, Seat, etc.
Just buy the one you like.
Cars (and bikes) are very emotive subjects and everyones idea of a good car is different. You just have to read this thread to see that.
Personally (out of all the cars mentioned) I'd go for the Yaris but thats just me.
As for your original question, don't buy either, wait until you find the right car in the right colour.
In fords defence, i had a very modified XR2 for 3 years with not an ounce of trouble, i also had an Astra which cost me a small fortune in repairs. i now have a volvo.
The Skoda Fabia is a quality car. It should be its the thinking mans polo, and about2k less. Based on the Mk4 Polo platform, and engine, its a good buy, then you can spend the money you save on new leathers!!

As a general derail/my 2p worth on cars.
Test drove the Fabia when Mrs Tricky was looking for a new car last, I thought it was rather dull. She bought a Yaris in the end. (but thats just me, see my earlier post).
As for VW, Audi etc. Eveyone I know who has one says they use a stack of oil ? (and these are (petrol) cars under 3 years old)
Wouldn't touch anything French with a stick, Jap all the way way for me please.
All of this is IMHO of course

thanks.........i think

Japanese for me, practically all surveys show better reliability. Skoda about the best European. Honda generally at the top, Accord/Civic/Jazz .
One interesting survey example
http://www.reliableplant.com/article.asp?articleid=827
"CR found that Toyota and Honda models have significantly fewer problems than cars from other manufacturers. Overall, 8-year-old Toyotas are about as reliable as 3-year-old Fords and Chryslers and 2-year-old Volkswagens. Toyotas have about half the problems of Volkswagens when new and only a quarter of the problems when five years old.
On average, 5-year-old Asian vehicles had 44 problems per 100 vehicles; American, 89 per 100; and European, 97 per 100."
I run a Yaris.

Gawd what a choice. If you must get one of them I'd go for the Pug as it will have better resale value.Never buy something orange as it will make you ill looking at it,and no one in their right mind will ever buy it off you.
Seriously though, why blow your money on these crap bottom of the market new cars when for less money you can get a two year old quality car second hand?Get a Golf Audi anything from Toyota or even a slightly older Merc. You won't regret it when you own and drive it,and will be even more pleased when you realise how much depreciation you won't be paying for.

wow...lot of generalisations here. Peugeots do get hammered in JD Power ratings and by most car pundits, but not all French cars are crap and not all German & Jap cars are great. I had a company car Renault Scenic diesel 1.5 6 speed last yr and thought it was brilliant. My current personal car is a 5 yr old Mondeo Est Ghia X with 102k and it runs like new. It's black and I call it The Hearse. The latest batch of Fords are quality cars.

Peugeots are allright (I don't like the bigger ones, but I really like 106s- I quite fancy a 106 Rallye as a runabout). It's just that the colour is irrelevant; you thought the paintwork on the SV was shoddy? Wait till the Peugeout has seen a few winters. Mine looked like it had leprosy.
The new Corsa is quite good (better than the Fiesta IMO). If you get at least the 1.4 petrol version, you might be pleasently suprised by how briskly you can drive them- I have "paperwork" that proves I have done over 100 in one and I was by no means thrashing it. :D
