I escaped!!

Went for a ride out to Stirling yesterday while the other fixed the petrol tank and fitted new indicators.

Left at 11.15 and the roads were awful. As i was on the Honda decided to go the preety scenic route via Allandale and Denny and avoid the motorway totally. However not even a mile down the road while braking for a roundabout i lose the back end and have a good effort at fishtailing!
The roads wet the tyres are cold and I was doing approx 20mph. Now I know I probably put far too much back brack on - though it didn't feel that much. I didn't see any diesel so it was rider error.

The real question is how do you get your bike back under control without putting your feet down?

P.S I managed to get to Stirling Mills in one petrified piece but the ride back was brilliant (dry roads)

If you are going in a straight line and you fishtail then the bike should natrually find its balance again. Fishtailing approaching roundabouts is real easy on a roadbike if its just been raining.

You solved it yourself though...too much back brake. When the roads are wet like that you are much better doing front then the back shortly after. 50/50 is best in damp conditions.

It's a difficult one to say do this or that but I'm used to fishtailing all the time on the off road stuff. Best advice is to just ease off on the brakes or progressively brake.

Re putting your feet out I tend not to. I tend to let my natural reactions take care of the balance and it seems to work.

Have you thought about doing offroad stuff? Really worth it. You learn loads about balance sliding etc.

I blame the roads :lol:
If I lock the back wheel, I normally just let the brake off an back on again.

Out on Saturday afternoon with a mate, roads were damp-ish and had a brown trouser moment when the front let go while braking :shock: when my brain registered that the bike was starting to lean over I quickly let the front off.. stood on the back brake, slid all over the place but thankfully it stood the bike up straight!
Went back to look at the road to see if there was derv or something and noticed there was a tar line that joined two patched up bits of the road that went off to the side of the road, think the wheel just followed it :(

I had a wee run down to Dunbar... I was then distracted by the waves, and rock pools, and the castle and the boats and that, so I ended up not going any further :)
