investigating clutch probs - a newer stupider question.

Very very basic question here. I'm having this problem

I have a 99 curvy and want to try Sid Squid recommended fix. Is taking the black clutch cover off going to mean I have to sort the problem or is it possible to just remove for a look and replace without buying any new gaskets or other parts?

I've never done this before but wary of asking a garage to sort clutch as I'll be £80 down before they've even fitted a part!

Taking the clutch cover off is easy enough, you can remove have a look and poke around without having to do anything. Just remember to check that the gasket is in the groove properly on refitting...unlike min and it ****ed oil all over the exhaust on the way home one night :oops:

...and when the cover is removed will oil come rushing out? (you can tell i'm a novice :oops: ). Will I need to replace any fluids? I only did a oil & filter change 3 weeks ago so reluctant to replace the oil.

on a curvy if it's on the side stand, it will be fine. Might be best to have a little tray under the cover in case you loose a little bit of oil, but it should be ok.

is it not a plastic cover,so wait till bike is stone cold or it may worp,dont over thighten the bolts when you put it back on

Ok, once I realised I wasn't removing the circular clutch cover but the sprocket cover next to it I adjusted the clutch as per the method described. Got it wrong at first but second time seems to have improved things a not inconsiderable amount. I'm still getting light slippage at full throttle so I think perhaps the actual clutch will need investigating by a proper mechanic at some point.
