Rant time....

So, travelling in this morning, nice and sunny, dry, but nippy. Plodding along and was on the inside lane of a 2 lane road. White van in another lane in front decides to try to undertake the car in his lane. He swerves accross lanes nearly wiping my front end out, and nearly wiping out a load of cyclists in my lane also... The road then goes to 1 lane (He never got past the car, no chance even before he swerved) and i pull out to the middle of the road. So i pull up along side, shaking my head and pointing at my mirror. The guy politley raises his hand with a middle finger, possibley an apology? Black guy, headband, 1 hand on top of the stearing wheel sitting as low as possible (in a white Mk4 Astra Van, you da man...... ), homie in the passanger seat.. I shake my head laughing away and go to ride off, but the guy swings my way forcing me onto oncoming traffic!!! I couldn't believe it, and stamp the brakes and pull in behined. The road spreads and I pull along side again. I look over and give a few "signals" and again he apologises by raising a middle finger again.. We approach some lights, i stop along side. He doesn't put his window down, but is still playing "da boy" attitude. Another all mouth no trousers retard then Yes, you are so very cool.... The lights go green and we pull away. I wasn't trying to beat him off the lights, he's clearly not that intelligent to "play" with so I accelerate as normal trying to forget Mr Homie. The road narrows and he's clearly floored it as he's along side and again all of a sudden. Yet again he edges closer and I get forced to the other side of the road... Playtimes over, im getting angry.... If he's not even gonna put his window down, im not playing ball... I'll just get off at the next light and belt you one..

The road then splits in 2 again. Another biker whos been watching whats happened comes past us both, the Astra decides he's going to take out his attitude on him, floors it, swings accross again and missis the biker by about 1/2 metre, but goes flying past. Coming up to the Rotherhithe tunnel roundabout and there is a pedestrian crossing, the van just floors it, doesn't stop for the RA, nor the crossing. Much to the fact theres 2 cars already stopped and someone crossing the crossing... The pedestrian was paying attention luckily and jumped out the way..... We both slow and allow him to cross. The other biker looks at me with a livid look in his eyes. The road then goes into 1 lane and 1 bus lane and the van gets caught in traffic. He goes past first striking a killer blow to the vans mirror and bits come flying off. I come past, and "finish the job" as it were. The whole mirror goes bouncing down the road. I carry on riding normally. I was just going to stop and get off, but he'd already started, and it saves my effort.. Its not like he uses them anyway clearly.

I catch up to the other biker at the next set of lights. He's livid that HE nearly got wiped out for no reason, that the van nearly wiped out the pedestrian, and that he nearly wiped me out, then forced me into very dangerous positions. Meanwhile the guy wouldn't even wind down his window.... He's well "bo wiv his posse gangsta homie in da ride wiv im ayiiiiiiiii". Hes comfortable with what he's just done to the van. Not suprisingly, so am I.

I don't usually condon mirror swiping unless the driver really does deserve it, but this guy did, and I only finished the job...

Still, traffic was GREAT into town this morning. I love school holidays...

As someone posted the other day, always expect the un-expected as it will usually happen. Be carefull of retards who think of no-one but themselves.

THat sounds ridicluously dangerous of the white van man, glad you two got his mirror, but I would rather the police were around to stop him and actually prevent him from running over pedestrians and trying to kill other people.

Was it spiderman per chance (the other biker)?

I dont condone taking their mirrors off or doing any damage, ultimatly you will loose if he hits you.

Its annoying but i try not to get in thoes situations, i have been known though.

Mirror swiping? It sounds more like that guy driving the van needed his window opening for him & a little education on the rules of the road.

And there was me running late for work doing stupid speeds & taking calculated risks. I felt like I was riding on the edge, but to be forced into oncoming traffic  That's just asking for a kicking.

Sorry, just my 2p. Glad everything worked out & no harm came to anything other than the van.

Fair play, however some times it is better to let the ****s go as next time you might end up with a cap in your ****

What are the odds he didnt even have a licence, insurance etc?

This is the sort of ******** the police should be targetting and they aint gonna catch them with speed scameras ffs

Glad youre ok - but take it easy out there - dont let the red mist get you into trouble

I really don't know how you kept so calm. I would have dragged him from his car at the first set of lights and beaten the snot out of him. He tried to push you into oncoming traffic so a good kicking is what he needed. But then that's me.

Youve probably just bust the mirror of some poor sods stolen van.

I guess every biker has to watch out for a white Astra van with a broken mirror even more so now that he's out for revenge on any biker.

In that kind of situation I just pull over. Get some distance between you and them as they zoom off.

If you read, i just delieverd the final blow, the mirror was already knackard by the bloke in front whole watched the whole thing.

As for "hitting any other biker", he went straight though a crossing, while someone was on it, do you really think he'll care about anyone at all, biker or not???

Usually i would of just belted him at the first set of lights, but seeing as it was such a nice day and the traffic was so good, i was in a really good mood and enjoying the "simple" run into the city for a change. (esp with the weather we've had this week).

It didn't look stolen, it looked clean, probably his work van or something. Just ghetto dudes out thinking they is "all that"...

I think he deserved a lot more than a mirror swipe, considering he tried to kill you. Three times was it?

If you've got removeable toe sliders, take it off and screw a screw (heh) into it so that the pointy end is sticking outwards. Then if this situation ever presents itself again, the driver of the offending vehicle gets free speed stripes.

Sorry didn't mean to have a go at you, don't know what I would have done (except sounds like I would have been past him a long time before he did anything)

I dunno man.

All I am going to say is I dont want "I was driving in the right" on my gravestone.
If a van hits you, or even twitches you at speed, you my friend, could very well end up being brown bread. Like the good doctor said... the ****head has probably robbed or loaned it of work anyway. He wont care about a minor ding.

With cnuts like this, I *try* to just get as far away as possible from them, in any direction available. (That includes backwards in emergancies)

(Not that ripping off his mirror was a bad thing... you understand 8), its just that I would be more inclinded to be upset if you bought it than him being ****ed off.)

Regardless of the rights or wrongs of mirror bashing, I will say this:

On more than one occassion I've been nicely forewarned of a badly driven vehicle by missing wing mirrors. :)

I'd have kicked his door well before all that! (As I did a car in Hendon a few months back)

I kicked a wing so hard one time, My foot punched through the metal, and sort of got stuck for a second.

Could have been a nasty one. But wasnt.

I find though... that... its hard to say, I find that I really dont want to be that angry, I feel that it actually damages me. I mean, I am shaking after. I am not a cold assassin type. It makes me really emotional. I just try to keep well away these days.

Seconded...

Surely you see he's being a **** on the first manouver and stay well clear? Don't wanna sound harsh but if you're riding up alongside giving a load of abuse its just asking for some nutjob to knock you off.

he might have busted a cap in your ass or something... bok bok :smt068

Yep exactly, a similar thing happened to me not so long ago with someone trying to swerve into me. I damn near dragged him out of his car, really, I get such an adrenalin rush that I get massive shakes and I go really psycho. We stopped in traffic and the guy didn't have the bulls to stop beside me (it was a three lane road), he stopped behind so I screamed at the guy to "get his ****ing car here now".

I don't condone damaging other peoples stuff (although my dad does from his motorcycling days  ) but I have respect for you at the same time for doing it. I am scared what I will do if I get pushed over the line that I was then, I'm worried that I might not stop.....

Yesterday I pulled into a carpool lane (motorcycles can use), moving nicely next to two lanes of stopped single-occupant vehicles. I'm accelerating to about 40, ready to merge to the highway, and a silly bird on a cell phone swerves without signaling into the carpool lane.

I had to do pretty aggressive braking, fortunately nobody following me closely, so after I was down to her speed I gave her a good bip with the horn. I see her look in the mirror and I touch my helmet like "THINK!, lady!"... so without interrupting her cell call she taps her head at me like "fsck off".

I always wish a copper would spot them, let's see, improper lane change, failure to devote full attention, improper use of carpool lane (she was on her own), at least.

I don't flip 'em off, because it just gets them hot at the next bike, who might not be as ready to handle their stupidity.
