I reecently downloaded some music videos from one of my fave bands. However, when I try to play any of them I get this message from Media Player:

Windows Media Player cannot play the file. The Player might not support the file type or might not support the codec that was used to compress the file.

The file types are just standard mpegs, so I know WMP10 can play them no problem. Is there a way to find out what codec was used to compress them which (I hope) should then allow me to actually play them? Im stumped!!

Thanks in advance boys and girls.

i just download k-lite codec pack and install that,

if you still cant play the file, then the file is probably duff.

Will try the codec pack, but is it possible that all 31 files that I downloaded could be duff?????

Also you might find apps like gspot http://www.headbands.com/gspot/ useful for identifying which codec is being used

For the love of god and a certain TV card manufacturer PLEASE don't use codec packs and then wonder why your TV card doesn't work any more

Codec packs are evil mkay?
